Kitty and Al Tait's journey to running their successful Orange Bakery is every bit as important as the beautiful recipes in this book. They tell the story with a lot of heart, but it is edited excellently such that the long tale of how things came to be never felt too long or indulgent. The design of the book, layout, and illustrations also make the reading experience a delight. It is clear that their team had the same wholehearted intent as they did to make something beautiful for their larger community to enjoy.

Memoir about mental health and baking through it. Really understanding the unpredictability and hap hazardness of anxiety and depression and the helplessness of the people around her. Beautiful humans🧡

I don't read food books. But I read this. It even made me want to bake. It remains to be seen if I will follow through or if the feeling will pass.

Although most of the book was relaxing, the beginning had some difficult moments where I almost DNF as it was sad, slow and didn't seem to be going anywhere. Also towards the end there's some sort of child neglect where they had their 16 /15 year old work seven days a week. They neglected her education to some extent and let her get burned out during the pandemic by working so much. This teenager then goes on to say it's her responsibility as if her parents aren't her guardians supposed to care about her wellbeing and attempt at the least to set limits. Her dad clearly failed to set rigid work hours to prevent this burnout and relapse. There's also some neglect in training and finding a suitable environment for their dog for a long while and the dog traumatizing their cat.Although it is an inspiring listen and informational about bakeries, you're unlikely to find any concrete solutions to depression and anxiety. They didn't really go that much into detail into what helped her that much (a combination of things, mainly experiences it would seem ) and she did zero trauma work/none was mentioned. It can be heartwarming at times with her friends ,family and community supporting her and positive experiences from other bakers on Instagram. A mixed bag really.
Audiobook, her voice is quite high pitched & there are no recipes,no dialogue until the last 5 mins.Father & daughter take it in turns to tell what happened.
