"There are so many secrets in our world, aren't there? Ones we keep, ones we reveal but only at the right moments."
Once again we are transported to India, following along our favorite characters as a new journey begins. Alka does it again and doesn't disappoint. I definitely did not want this book to end and am eagerly awaiting the 3rd installment as well as the series to come.

The whole relationship between Malik and Nimmi felt forced. Was not what I was expecting especially with the whole gold story line. But I loved the parts with Lakshmi and the Maharanis.
Having read and absolutely loved The Henna Artist, I immediately bought this book when I saw it for sale. The plot was quite interesting and I loved that it focused more on Malik’s life, but it could never compare to its predecessor.
I loved The Henna Artist because of Alka Joshi’s incredible talent for storytelling. This sequel has a lot of the same elements, but I wasn’t as taken with the story. I struggled to finish, but was overall satisfied with the book.

A nice “sequel” to The Henna Artist, but didn’t have as much intrigue or character layers.
Rounded up from 3.5 stars. A delightful read, but it doesn't stack up to The Henna Artist which was a much more powerful story for me.

4.5/5 - So much better than the first book.
I hope the author writes a third book about Radha. I would totally read this book again and the first one before reading the 3rd book of the series.
I really like the story with the gold smuggling and the terrible Singh’s. I also really like seeing more of Malik and Lakshmi.
I did not like Nimmi. Could care less for her but the whole plot with the sheep and the gold was quite interesting.
I just wonder what the kids between Jay and Nimmi was not addressed by Lakshmi or Jay? Hmmm...
I would read this again for sure.
