Even though I had Into the Water on my TBR for a long time I read The Girl on the Train almost ten years ago. The truth is that I have the same feelings with Paula Hawkins's debut novel. I feel like going in circles, and in the end, even though we get the who did it we get a last surprise that I wasn't fond of.
I understand that having so many characters mixes up the reader, but having so many different plot lines made the book long, which is why I had to take long breaks before picking it up again. I like Paula Hawkins's prose, but for me, the execution is lacking, and it feels a little strange.
I am in this phase of life where I wouldn't say I like to read books with tense moods; I gave Into the Water a chance because it is a book that deals with grief, murder, and many secrets those are themes I enjoy reading about.
I believe Into the Water is a book for people who crave a twisty tale with some glimpses of paranormal elements; a novel that explores the complexities of human emotions, and nature, and how sometimes memories of the past can have devastating power.
The truth is I don't know if Paula Hawkins's writing is to my liking, and if I pick up any of her future books it might take me another decade.

This book just wasn't quite all there for me. It may be because there is a LOT going on in it, and it may also be because I just didn't completely click with any of the characters. It's hard to put my finger on. However, I found it really moody and atmospheric and seriously, seriously messed up. Had it contained that extra something I can't quite put my finger on or quantify, I would have liked it better.

#intothewaterbook by #paulahawkins was dark and mysterious and written in a variety of viewpoints. I didn’t find it as captivating as Girl on a Train and felt the ending fell flat. A good quote on #grief:
“She had never realized before her life was torn apart how awkward grief was, how inconvenient for everyone with whom the mourner came into contact. At first it was acknowledged and respected and deferred to. But after a while it got in the way—of conversation, of laughter, of normal life.”
