The introduction was the bit that interested me the most in the end. That offered a lot of historical context. The main body of the text was... clearly written by someone who is more interested in fighting than writing. While I was reading in translation and can't judge the original completely, there were definitely repetitive elements which must have come from the original. The claims that this can be read and used for guidance far beyond martial arts in the same way as the Art of War don't quite ring true to me - yes there are a few bits of advice that can be more widely applied, but not on the same scale.

Auch wenn ich Musashi ziemlich cool finde und mich freue seine Biografie zu lesen, dieses Buch war nicht so gut. Paar coole Sachen sind dabei, aber mit dem meisten Zeug kannst du nichts anfangen.
Wieso auch immer, wiederholt Musashi auch die ganze Zeit dieselben Phrasen, das war ehrlich zu viel.

I loved reading this book. At first it was hard to apply the principles of martial arts and sword combat, but I eventually found these beautiful nuggets of advice on how one should conduct himself and the discipline required for the highest level of success. I would liken reading this to be almost a spiritual experience. It made me want to be better at committing to things in life.
