Twilight but in a different font

I was up and down with how I felt about this book at different points in it. I liked the characters and how they changed and their relationships throughout the book. I was interested in what was happening, but I think the length and drawn out descriptions of everything watered it down. I was confused (and still am) about some of the storylines.

Very engaging. A bit long, but worth it in the end.

I liked this book at first, but then it turned a bit sappy and romantic. That was really not what I was looking for. Overall, it was an interesting story line. However, was a bit long.

Stephenie Meyer is able to spin a good story, whether it’s about vampires, aliens who take over the bodies of Earthlings or, now, a government agent on the run. It’s interesting to see some of the same elements pop up in her books: there’s romance under impossible conditions; a character who seems too good to be true and another who fears he/she is too dangerous/damaged to be lovable; thrills and chases. I enjoyed this one, too. A solid 3.5 stars.

slow-paced

Interesting premise. A woman on the run. after spending time as the "pain interrogator" of a black ops - off the book group - with circumstances, meets a man. Yes, it's a romance novel, but only PG-13. I thought it was pretty good as far as genre goes. The characters are a little flat and abrupt - Meyer always tries to convey feelings with starkness.

p. 225 "You can't trust feelings born in the midst of severe physical and mental anguish." ---- so Meyer has watched the movie Speed ---

p. 317 "Fear of loss, fear of having because that made the loss possible."

p. 347 "This was the fist time she'd understood that joy could be even more severe than pain."
