I truly thought the concept was great and the start was strong. Sadly it changed and it didn’t have the excitement like the beginning. Decent and easy read though.

I liked this book. It has a good, strong female character.
I can see how people on the run would become completely paranoid!

This is a tough review to write. It's really hard to separate the author and her hype from my feelings about this novel. I am impressed with Stephanie Meyer wanting to do something completely different. This book is nothing like Twilight or the Host and I feel she needs props for that.

The main character Alex was very hard for me to connect with and the love interest Daniel was just.... bland? This book is trying to be a thriller with romance or a romance with a government/spy thriller and succeeds at neither.

Meyer has skills at developing secondary characters. Like twilight, I was much more interested in the secondary character than the main characters. Kevin was a delight.

I did like the nod to the fifty shades with the discussion between Val and Alex about power and dominance.

Read it if you're curious, I recommend borrowing not buying.

I'm pretty harsh when I rate things...a 5 is for OVER the TOP. Service that was above and beyond, quality that stood out, stories that left my mouth agape. 1 star is for "I have to tell you how much of a nightmare this was." I guess 3 is for....I got what I expected, nothing more - nothing less.

That's the case of this book. I thought it was going to be a mystery...like Harlan Coben or Lee Child. Nefarious doings, suspicious and skilled characters, violence, good hearts being chastised, evil running amok but now about to be checked. Meh, kinda. But more importantly romance between the torturer and the tortured. It was the connection on the spiritual level. First glance and it spoke to the core of the individual that being kidnapped, stripped, tortured, tortured again, and knocked unconscious repeatedly couldn't erase. OMG-gag me.

But there were twists and turns enough to keep me engaged. Characters that were an odd assortment, the dogs seemed like superheroes, the expenses were WOW, and while predictable - it was good enough.

A solid 3 stars.

This was an entertaining read with an interesting plot and characters. However, the story drug on a bit too long. There seemed to be long periods where not much happened, but when the action picked up, it was excellent. Overall, I enjoyed this book and would recommend it to anyone who likes action thrillers and doesn't mind the slower pacing of a longer book.

It is interesting how Stephenie Meyer is able to write such distinctly different books (the other ones being the Twilight series and The Host). The Chemist was a really thrilling and mysterious story with interesting characters. The suspense and feeling of "danger" was upheld throughout the story and made for an interesting read. Plus the main character is a badass female :D which is always nice.

To start off, I have to say I loved Stephenie Meyer's Twilight series and The Host. I was anxiously looking forward to a spy thriller. Unfortunately, this book just wasn't the best. I think the problem was that the first half of the book was clunky and dare I say it, boring. Her editor really needs a new job. Some of the sentences were so long and convoluted that they didn't make sense. It reminded me of those people in high school who were trying to impress the teacher with obscure vocabulary words and overly wordy sentences. It was also a little gruesome. I'm not a torture fan and you wonder if Ms. Meyers was giving a backhanded slap at Twilight rip-off 50 Shades of Gray by making her main character a professional torturer for the government. (I've never read it so I'm going on rumor here.)

I will say that the last half of the book was pretty good. The story could have been tighter, shorter, and the villains a little more fleshed out to make the story better. All in all, not bad for a genre change. Just not her best.

Decent, but not great. I honestly don't know what to think, I'll probably update this later, but, it was kind of boring. Klancy and I had come up with a better plot than Stephenie Meyer did.
I'm just disappointed.
