Grave Secret

Charlaine Harris

The fourth in the Harper Connelly Series, and a satisfying installment, too. Harris does a series well; she is good at making a tight story while still leaving backstory enough that you continue wanting more of her characters.

This book brings up the lingering mystery of the disappearance of her sister Cameron 8 years prior while fleshing out the budding relationship between Harper and Tolliver. I really enjoyed the book--the pacing was good, and the way the story unfolds was intricately delightful. I think the Harper series is doing better than the Sookie series at this point--not sure if the Sookie books have just gone on too long or what, but they've been uneven in the last couple of volumes; so far the Harper books don't seem to be flagging. The only wish is that Harper would lighten up a bit; she's a bit dour.

It was a pretty good story, but not particularly entertaining.

I just didn’t care for this book or for the series for that matter. I found myself zoning out too many times and not caring what even happened with any of the main characters. The ending was rushed and told too much rather than being shown. It just wasn’t for me.

I had a really hard time connecting to the story in this installment.

A good conclusion to the series, although I am sad to see it end. Especially when Charlaine Harris wrote so many Aurora Teagarden books, which were boring in comparison to Harper Connelly. Oh well...

A satisfying finale to a great series.

fab end to the series

I really enjoyed this series. The only thing I did not like about this specific book was that I felt it wrapped up too quickly.

Harper Connelly & Tolliver is called to their home town for a reading. The Joyces, a rich family wanted a reading on how their Grandfather died. What was seemingly a heart attack turns into a murder investigation. As Harper is reading in on the Grandfather's grave, his Nurse was buried near his site and she tell the Joyce's how the Nurse died too, whilst giving birth. The Joyce's was unhappy about this and felt that she was lying so they hired a Private investigator to try and find the Nurse's child, if the child existed.

Unfortunately for the Joyce's someone in their midst does not want them to know the truth and they will stop at nothing to ensure that their secret remains buried.

Then Tolliver's Father returns, he is out of jail and staying with Tolliver's brother Mark. He tries to make amends with Tolliver and tries and visits his two young Daughters, Tolliver and Harper's sisters at their Aunt Iona's house.

After all these years there's also a sighting of Harper's missing sister.

Nurse - Mariah Parish
Grandfather - Rich Joyce

This is the most dramatic Harper Connelly book and it's the last book in the series. It may not be as action-packed as others but rest assured you will still have drama, action, suspense and mystery in this story. The story also collects together to one ending, all entwining within each others story. This book is probably the best in the series as there's closure. However, the surprising is very surprising and not one that I would have guessed. Another fantastic Charlaine Harris story and can't wait for her next series.

Not as good as the first three although it wraps up the series.
