Pippi Longstocking is a demi-god. She can lift a horse with one hand, she's got a purse with unlimited money, she has a trickster's spirit, and she can see into the hearts and shortcomings of adults with carefree dismissal. I loved this book--highly unusual format and conflict construction. Astrid Lindgren cuts the strings of the heroes journey recipe and does something quite original. This classic is light and fun and definitely worth reading for anyone interested in wacky middle-grade and enduring kid's lit.

I read "Pippi Longstocking" with my daughter and we thoroughly enjoyed it. I got so much pleasure out of her astonished and gleeful reaction to all the outrageous things that Pippi does in the story --the very same reaction I remember having as a child. It was a joy to read it together.
