Sadly, this book just wasn’t for me. I think that, if I’d read it as a child, I would have enjoyed it more. It is well written for a children’s book and the character of Pippi is original, fresh and fun. Her crazy, daily adventures go beyond absurd (which I’m sure children love), but didn’t really grab me as an adult. My review does not reflect the quality of the book, but more of my taste as a reader. I know many people loved this book growing up. I almost wish I could go back and read it as a child.

I gave this book 3 stars. It was okay—not bad, but it didn’t quite live up to the nostalgic expectations I had going in. I remember watching the Pippi Longstocking movie as a child and absolutely loving it. I was hoping the book would bring back that same magic and feeling, but it just didn’t hit quite the same.
Pippi herself is still as quirky and fun as I remembered—strong, independent, and full of wild imagination—but something about the storytelling felt a little flat for me this time around. Maybe it’s one of those cases where the movie had a bigger impact because I saw it first. Still, it’s a light and whimsical read that many kids (and adults!) still adore. It just didn’t quite capture my heart the way I hoped.

Entertaining! Hopefully my kids don’t start lying all the time after listening to this book and my daughter is now pretty sad about the fact that a girl was living all alone without any parents.
I originally gave 4 stars, but I changed to 5, because my kids loved it that much! My kids say “Pippi lies but she doesn’t have bad lies, she’s funny and super nice.” I agree with their analysis.
