I never really enjoyed Pippi Longstocking's adventures. I do not think I could really relate to her as a kid and her attitude rubbed me the wrong way.

Just like I remembered it -- totally over the top.

Unique, astonishing, and brilliant. Lindgren understood a few key things about childhood, or childlike-ness, and she understood them so clearly that they rolled out like a brash, tuneless song on a sunny afternoon. Effortless excellence.

I simply couldn't recall if I'd read this book as a child and when I spotted it in my granddaughter's room I asked if she liked it. She did and suggested I borrow it. (I love that my grandchildren suggest books for me! She's nine.) Two of my grandparents were born in Sweden and I had an aunt named Astrid so it seemed logical I follow up on her suggestion. If you read this as a child, it will still be a good book to read as a parent or grandparent. I loved Pippi's use of language, the visuals and the strong girl concept.

HarisnyÔs Pippilotta Citadella Intarzia Majolika Ingaóra. I think that was her name. When I learned to read this was my first novel after hundreds of tales.

Fun and quirky.
