Thank you to the publisher for sending me an ARC of this book!
I am obsessed with this lonely, sad girl, artist vampire! This is definitely more of a “character study” and it falls into the “literary sad girl” genre that’s all the buzz right now, so make sure you know what you’re getting yourself into.
This story reminds me a lot of how I feel watching an A24 film - hypnotized, mildly uncertain, and questionably satisfied by the end. If you like the works of Ottessa Moshfegh or perhaps Sally Rooney, this may be for you.

for a book called “Woman, Eating” she sure didn’t eat a lot.
CAWPILE: 3.86/10 - 2/5

I think this book fell victim to the right book, wrong time (bad brain!) curse and once I will read it again with less of a hazy mind, I might enjoy it more
I loved and admired this book (in spite of its weird goodreads synopsis). The themes of gender, race, colonialism, and society, all x vampirism, were outstanding and insightful. I also appreciated the writing, which I found at times, touching, dry, witty, and heartfelt, without ever being cloying (and sometimes being a bit disturbing!). I was not as interested in the art world component as the book was, and... while I liked this book, for some reason it took me a long time to read. I'm not sure if it's just because it was a little heavy or dense, or if I didn't quite find it compelling. Nonetheless, I look forward to more by this author.
The pacing was all off for me and my god did I want to give this woman seven gallons of blood Jesus CHRIST vampire, DRINK!!!
Hmm!!! A haunting little study on identity…I enjoyed this fresh characterization of a vampire, parsed through family and existence in a thoughtful way, but i just wanted more!!
I’m giving this 3 stars but maybe it’s more of a 3.5 or 4. I would’ve probably been disappointed or totally bored if I hadn’t already been prepared for this type of story.
