Urgh, I loved the concept of this one and gave it an extra star for the twist ending that I did think was interesting. But I really didn't like the writing, dialogue, or the characters. Only reason I made it through was that it was a quick read.

Ever since watching X-Files, I’ve loved alien stories and conspiracy theories, so I had high hopes this book would give me creepy alien vibes like The Fourth Kind (think ‘Paranormal’ movies but aliens).
Nope. I found this book not creepy but disturbing. When I think alien and horror, I imagine aliens sneaking in your backyard, peering through your window and trying to take you back to their spaceship. This wasn’t that.

The characters were unlikable so it was hard to find enjoyment in reading it. The overhanging sense of dread was what kept me reading, oh and the hope of aliens. And sadly, the ‘big moment’ I had pegged from the start.

Others may enjoy this book but I couldn’t, maybe I had too high expectations that this would be a good alien discovery horror/thriller.

Bent Heavens by Daniel Kraus wasn’t what I was expecting, but it definitely kept me entertained from cover to cover. I loved the concept, and the setting, however, the plot took a bit of suspension of disbelief for me. With fiction this is often the case, but in a more realistic fiction (just meaning a story that seems to take place in the real world) novel, this was a little bit harder. I thought that the characters were interesting, though a little one note in some aspects. This book has been in my TBR pretty much since it was released, so I was really excited to read it, and from an entertainment viewpoint, it did not disappoint. I thought it was pretty fast-paced and kept moving throughout to keep the reader interested, but not going too much away at the same time. This book will keep you on the edge of your seat and is perfect for a suspense, thriller, and sci-fi lover.

I enjoyed this so much I finished it in one day. It has a good twist amongst all the high school drama.

Horror is best when it’s not really about monsters or aliens- when it’s about the real world around you, the things you don’t see or the things you ignore. This alien horror was beautiful woven, sickening, heartbreaking, and hopeful all at the same time.

5 out of 5 Stars
I feel like it needs to be stated that books don't make me emotional. I love books that make me think, but usually they don't illicit raw emotions from me.
That was not the case for this novel. I felt a stinging relatability to Liv. I have also lost a parent, and I understand that anger, frustration, concern, and general pain of not understanding and knowing. It isn't something I would wish upon my worst enemy. This novel captured those emotions in a way I never hoped. It is crushing to see someone in so much pain, and not having a way to have a release from them spells trouble.
Everything about how the characters are portrayed was beautiful. Everyone is angry in some way. Some can express it more openly, and some come in bursts. But no one feels it the exact same, and that is perfectly seen here. Jealousy, rage, frustration, and feeling like a lack of control.
The novel as a novel is fantastic as well. The writing style fits well, and most things get explained well enough. The ending is left open enough to create a multitude of ideas, and I can't recommend it enough for young adults and adults.

I absolutely love how in depth al the characters were, and how they changed and grew throughout the book. It’s an absolute must-read for paranormal horror fans.

I started this expecting something else and quickly found myself annoyed at the direction the story actually took. I admit I wasn’t expecting the twists and turns when it picks up closer to the end but it wasn’t enough for me to look past all the violence and needless torture.
