These characters are so toxic to each other that it is insane they were together for as long as they were. However, I did really like the ending of the story.
Half way through the book I thought I wasn’t going to be able to get through it because nothing interesting was happening but eventually I got the ending I didn’t know I wanted but loved

I'm rating it a 2 stars and that's only becuase I liked how they were together before he cheated and yes he cheated
It was so annoying when he didn't understand her panic attacks nor try to understand he pissed me off immensely and he was so selfish when he knew the mc had every right to be pissed

felt as if I was reading about an annoying high school couple
This is exactly like when you have a bestfriend and she is in a toxic relationship with a guy and after months or even years they FINALLY breakup.
And you are happy for her because, yes, she wasn’t perfect during the relationship and made some mistakes, but the guy was a master manipulator jerk that didn’t deserve her at all.
So now its all good, maybe she even got a breakup glowup, maybe some spicy revenge or a good amount of closure and then,
OUT OF NOWHERE.
They get back together.
And you and everyone on the sidelines are like:
watafak? What goin’ onnnn?
It doesn’t make sense.
Well that feeling is what you are going to get while reading this book. So unsatisfying.
On the positive, hearing you bestfriends relationship drama is fairly entertaining at time so i give it that,
Also this book was well written, had a consistent plot, good characters (even though wanted to kill some of them) and was really realistic in its portrayal of some relationships.
Like when i tell you i have met so many guys just like Logan its kinda scary at this point. They are everywhere, in real life, on social media, he might be your boss or your boyfriend that is currently very sweet, or 3/5 guys from that skateboarding group.
They aren’t bad people per se but most of them have or will do some or most thing from the like bellow:
- are “nice guys”
- either have been in a bunch of relationships or have never had a “proper relationship”
- apparently all of their ex’s are crazy
- if they don’t cheat in you they will move on very quickly and maybe even where in a emotional relationship with the next person before the breakup.
- they will probably gaslight you. A lot.
- assume you are a cheater or always accuse you of cheating
- are “nice guys” (“nice guys” it’s basically those guys that expect something out of being nice, they might be charming or very very nice to you but then if you reject them (because you don’t owe them anything) they might get pissed, call u a b1tch, say “nice guys finish last” “all girls are the same” “most girls don’t like nice people they only date guys that treat them bad and bad boys” and something along those lines, obviously they aren’t all the same but it generally comes in the form of “i-give-or-treat-nice-girl-and-girl-must-date-or-hook-up-with-nice-guy-because-he-only-was-nice-to-get-something-in-return”
-may be very controlling
-say they “like feminism” but when you talk about it or call them out for their misogyny or internalised misogyny they get mad and defensive.
- if they don’t move on fast after the breakup they might stalk u o become obsessive.
Sorry if this turned into a feminist review or a “i kinda dislike some men” review but i had to, I couldn’t help myself, Logan was just way too spot on.
I don’t remember what i was going to say beforehand but overall this was a pretty good book and my low rating is mostly because I personally didn’t like the plot and the characters relationship, from an objective side of things i took another star because at some points the flash-blacks were a little messy and just dragged a lot the story.
2.5 stars.
P.S. I read other reviews and now I’m confused are we supposed to like their relationship and root for them????? Because if thats the case... khe? Que esta pasando aqui. Hopefully this was supposed to portray a realistic toxic relationship and that logan was written as a douche on purpose and lena leini o whatever her name is was also written annoying on purpose.

"Who knew revenge could do such wonders for mental health?."
I received an e-ARC of this book from the publisher via Netgalley in exchange of an honest review.
Trigger warnings: Drug addiction
The awesome title and cover of this book were more than enough to spark interest in me to pick up this novel, and I was not disappointed. This is a very angsty and hateful romance book featuring two people with tons of baggage between them, while also tackling mental health issues such as anxiety and panic disorder.
I commend the author for putting her own personal experience with generalized anxiety disorder and panic disorder into her character Leilani, because it gave the readers such better understanding and a clear view on how it happens to a person. I found myself empathizing with Lani, and putting myself into her shoes from the beginning because of how realistic and vulnerable she was with her condition - especially with all her ups and downs. Also kudos for the author in featuring the importance of therapy and support from friends and family during a mental health crises.
The romance game of this novel started really strong, and I was so into ditzy relationship-slut Logan and the reclusive yet highly opinionated Lani. They were just both polar opposites of one another that it was such a ride to see them figure each other out and slowly fall in love. I really enjoyed the banter between them. But my main problem with this book is how clueless and awful Logan was when Lani started to spiral down a dangerous road in her head. Sure it was explained in the latter pages why he did so and the problem he had with it, but the moment that particular scene happened, I was already frustrated and mad at him for not seeing the bigger issue, thinking all about himself, and running away immediately from it. I just really wanted to strangle him from that point onwards, and have lost all my sympathy for him then.
The story itself is very fast paced and easy to read and get into, and I didn't have a hard time adjusting to the alternating timelines that explained both how their relationship started and how their revenge plots happened. I only have a slight issue with how the last few chapters happened because it all felt rushed to me. But nevertheless, it wss still an enjoyable story.
I would recommend this book to anyone who really loves a very angsty romance.

****I was provided an ARC for my honest opinion and like I always say honesty is what you’re going to get.****
Revenge cake is a debut novel and it was written really well and it was able to keep my attention. In my opinion it wasn’t overly angsty and I found it to be a fast read. The sex scenes were ok and I liked both H and h.
The story was told in dual point of views and every other chapter alternated between past and present which was fine but I felt took away from the story. I wanted more of the present and the lack of epilogue really bothered me. I don’t even know if I would call this a HFN or a HEA as the book ended with her agreeing to give him another chance. I wanted to see this future after college that they had previously talked about. How did they grow as couple? How did they navigate her anxiety and the way they communicated? Was love enough in the end? In the present they spent more time apart than together and well I just wanted to see them together and healthy and living their best lives. Did it end like this because they are going to have another book? Although to be honest I don’t know if I would read it and only because I don’t want to see them apart again or having any conflict. Would I read something about them if it consisted of only happy times? Yup in a heartbeat! So the past/present and lack of epilogue was my only thing I didn’t like. This Author can write her ass off and she writes a really good story. I have read authors where I’ve started off with their most recent work and have gone back to read all their books starting with the first and you can definitely tell the difference and how they progressed in their writing and the stories just getting better and better and I really feel this how it will be with this Author. I think she’s only going to advance as she continue to put out her work
Now a little bit about the book without giving to much away:
The beginning started off intense with Leilani and Logan breaking up and as the story progressed we get to see how they fell in love, and what happened to cause their fallout.
As someone who struggles with extreme anxiety I can resonate with Leilani on a personal level. It’s why I don’t get into relationships because you know eventually your anxiety is going to become to much for the other person to handle and that’s exactly what Leilani was feeling and she handled it in terrible way by pushing him away. I don’t think she felt like she was good enough for him. Logan was a man who loved idea of love and went from relationship to relationship and well it was understandable that she felt that eventually he would find her anxiety as a burden. So when he asked for a break from her for a month to sort out her problems and get better she didn’t handle it well. So she seeked revenge on him for breaking her heart. Their were times where Leilani felt like she was slowly being replaced and Logan sought comfort in others while trying to deal with all of her problems and it did take a toll on him and they both shut down and stopped working on their relationship. They both made mistakes and I’m glad they in the end they were both able to admit to their faults and what they both did wrong.
