I liked it a lot. The ending felt a bit rushed but overall it was good.

Color of Dragons is a average YA novel, nothing really to write home about but nothing that is very bad either. Now that I am finished with it, I don’t think I will think about it again.

The world is interesting but there really is not a lot of effort out into building out the world beyond the Walled City and they don’t really do a good job of fleshing out the Walled City. The characters and places within the Walled City are not really distinct and get kind of mixed up in my head

The only characters that have any kind of positive growth are Maggie and Griffin, but even that feels rushed and not given enough time. The twist at the end is super rushed and I don’t think really make sense, seems like it came out of nowhere.

Overall it is not super amazing and really does not hold up to other YA novels. I would try a sequel if there is one, but the expectations are extremely low

I don't know why this was written as a standalone because it feels like so many things were left unwritten, unsaid, undeveloped...incomplete. I saw some saying that there "may" be more, but that's certainly something that should've been considered. Yes, there were cool parts to this book, I enjoyed the powers and Maggie as an mc, but it feels unfinished - more of a draft than a novel.

absolute yikes this book was shit

i thought things could only go uphill after blade of secrets, but i was terribly wrong. god shall never forgive my hubris. also, i love the irony that both of these dogshit books had Arthurian reveals, like lmao. please make it more clear you missed the whole fucking point of Arthurian literature.

the characters were both one-dimensional and inconsistent. there was so much melodrama and people were evil solely for the sake of being evil. apparently being ugly is a crime. this book was very poorly edited, and who thought it was a good fucking idea to have 1st-person primary pov and 3rd-person primary pov? you are dogshit and i hate you. everything about this was miserable. even an eleven year old would see how bad this was. what the fuck did i just read. i can't,,,,,,,,,,,, emphasize enough how bad this was. reading this was a crime. there is somebody waiting for my copy of this book in the library and never have i truly wished so deeply i could pass a message onto them, letting them know i had suffered enough for the both of us. it's not worth it.

put this piece of shit in a course on how not to write, or what it looks like when two authors who don't mesh try to write a book, or what it looks like when the publisher knows your name and thus stops giving a shit.

i would say this gave middle-grade vibes, but that would be an insult to middle grade. somehow, the complexity was lost even on that level--it was like these authors had an idea in their heads about what was YA without ever reading YA, and so... this. oof. yikes. kill me.

Beginning and end were fun. The middle dragged so much. Wasn't really all that mind blowing. Read for the dragons, got only one dragon for very short time 😐
