Seems like 2023 was the year that everyone and their mother went for a hockey romance that's more than 500 pages long and frankly, it's all just meh. Unremarkable, superficial, two-dimensional. Call it what you want.

I hit DNF on 3 books in one day. Not a single one could grab my interest. All completely different sub genres and authors.

This book was read off the high of two 5 star reads and I think that thoroughly affected its rating. I don't think I should have dived into a college romance after two second chance romance. The premise is so different and requires two different frames of mind.
Let's start with what I enjoyed. I enjoyed reading from the perspective of a hockey goalie, I haven't before and it lended itself to Ty's character arch.
Breast cancer was discussed in this book in a very sensitive and realistic way. The author was able to bring out the anxiety, sadness and cautious hope typically faced with cancer.
I love their nicknames for each other, Tina and Hades. In all my reading, I have heard very odd nicknames in books that I question if they'd ever work in real life, but I can see these ones working
What didn't click for me was the insta love bit of it. I didn't find it believable. Also Ty kept giving weird mixed signals which annoyed me. I know that was part of his character development but damn.
I didn't like Chase's big brother overprotective shtick. Granted I have never liked this trope much, I just think, if you trust and love me as your friend then you also would be comfortable with me dating your sibling. Like why would my sibling not want to tell me that they are dating my friend because they think I'll flip out. That's just odd.
I think we should have had more time exploring the friendship between Sara and Chloe. I love when authors have a friendship in the book that's not directly tied to the relationship going on.
I thought the multiple epilogues could have been condensed to one. I guess I'm not a fan of being taken too far into the future, that's what my imagination is for.
I'd  still recommend this book though, but after reading a heavy lit fic or any other genre that's not romance. I would also recommend going into it with a young adult mindset. The characters will be far more enjoyable that way.
