**Olivetti** - Allie Millington - **8/10**
A middle grade novel told from the perspective of an 80 year old typewriter & a traumatized kid who loves words. They are brought together when one day the boyโ€™s mom runs away from home and the typewriter decides to speak up (type up?) and help.

There are some shortcuts in the plot and some middle grade tropes Iโ€™ve read too many times, but it was such a heartfelt and raw book that those get a pass from me.
I thoroughly enjoyed it and felt like it realistically addressed some very dark and difficult topics, while still maintaining a hopeful ending (thatโ€™s one trope I DO like with middle grade - keeping that hopeful ending)

Oh my heart. This is emotional and so so good.

A mom disappears and a typewriter provides the memories to find her (and heal her family).

I'm so hear for magical and talking typewriters. This was just the perfect about magic and heart. A talking typewriter who helps a family get through awkward relationships and a cancer diagnosis (again). It was sad and heartwarming and beautiful all once. Showing the power of a family who can get through hard times together.
And of course Narnia. The magical story of Narnia and books shows up a powerful tool to bind and help hurts.

This bool would be good as an older  mature MG read or a family read aloud. Lots of topics to navigate and discuss as a family. Potential content warning: family dysfuction, cancer, possible suicdal ideations.

Mystery book- started slowly but by chapter 3, we were hooked! Sad storyโ€ฆ but hopeful ending!

Pros:
Story concept
Characters (although not a lot of descriptions, actions and statements produced a clear picture of their personalities) Olivetti being my fav!
Writing style of going back and forth between characters.
Ending

Cons:
Length (would have loved to see this go deeper)
