Okay, I have seen a bit of mixed reviews for this book. Some people are criticizing it for romanticizing cheating. That's not what I found. I found that the author tried to throw light on the problem of society's double standards. And I thought she did it pretty well.

This is my second book by Katie Cotugno, and I really like her writing style.

Re-read 5/11/18: 2015 Chelsea definitely had way stronger feelings about this one than 2018 Chelsea, lol. I still enjoyed this one a whole lot, it’s definitely one of the more realistic YA contemporaries that I’ve read. HOWEVER. This time I picked up on some weirdness re: fatness and it really turned me off. It was one of those “you’re not fat, you’re beautiful” moments that imply fat people aren’t beautiful and it made me headdesk real hard 🙄 buuuuut other than that I did really like the story at its core and I very much enjoyed my re-read.

Original read 9/17/15: Wow, okay. So I ended up really enjoying this. It deals a lot with cheating and families and I know that a lot of people didn't like this book BECAUSE of that, but I feel like it was pretty well handled. I mean, obviously cheating sucks and there's pretty much no way around that, but I feel like this book is a great demonstration of WHY it sucks so much to cheat on someone who loves you and all the people it affects. Idk. I really enjoyed this. I definitely think it's better than Katie Cotugno's other book and that it's worth checking out.

Wow. I can't say that I haven't felt like Molly, because I have on at least five different occations.. I loved connecting to this book and getting sucked in. I've wanted to read this book for a while and I am most certainly glad I did.

Got bored, and I stopped caring about what happened.

I wish I could give this book a zero

Completely addictive, delightful drama. I love Katie Cotugno's writing. If you are not a fan of love triangles, this is not for you. If you can handle a conflicted, complicated character being very unsure of herself and obsessing over two brothers, read this book. :)

Molly and Patrick have been together forever. (not a spoiler) When molly gets recruited to run track for a prestigious boarding school, shit hits the fan. Molly and Patrick get in a huge fight and break up and Molly sleeps with Patrick’s older brother Gabe. THEN Molly’s mom writes a best selling book based on the entire situation, making Molly the social pariah of her small town. She escapes the states and harassment for senior year at the boarding school but now she’s back for the summer and has to face both brothers and the feelings she has for both of them.
Ok here’s the spoiler part so move on if you must. Honestly this book is just one big toxic relationship bundle. Molly shouldn’t have slept with Gabe, but Patrick was the worst. He was so controlling. Even she says he’s hard to talk to and always had to have things be his way. When she wanted one thing for herself he blew up and broke up with her. Now Gabe was a little better because he was genuinely happy for her and wanted her to do things that made her happy. He’s not the problem of this book, it’s Molly. While she’s back and dating Gabe, Patrick is dating someone too. BUT Patrick is going out of his way to emotionally manipulate Molly every chance he gets. He’s always trying to make out with her in secret and it gets more rash as the summer goes on. Now Molly knows this is wrong but SHE DOES IT ANYWAYS! they’re both in the wrong here but it is annoying for her since the story is told from her perspective of how guilty she feels but she keeps going back for more and continues to be with Gabe. And she’s Bffs with Patrick’s new girlfriend, who is one of the only people in town that’s nice to her so that really makes it worse. As you can see this book really got me upset.

3.5 face palms for 99 Days.
As my Momma used to say, "If they'll cheat with you, they'll cheat on you." Clearly, sound wisdom someone should have passed onto the three mc's of this book. Yikes. The first 250 pages of this book was good, yoy got it, even if you didn't agree with it, but then it was a bin full of Jiminy Crickets ( translation: What the world or Someone is needing a moral compass)! I read this book pretty quickly. It was an easy and compelling read, but the characters made some of the worst possible choices, so that is why I am giving this book a 3.5 rating.

Honestly, I disliked the main character, and I didn't really care for the motives of the two love interests. I couldn't find it in myself to sympathize with any of them, because they were all in the wrong the whole time. I didn't find it romantic, I found it distasteful. (And the mother is an awful, awful woman.)

However, the writing was decent, and it was interesting enough to keep me reading throughout the entire book, despite my dislike of all of the characters. Therefore it earned 2 stars, instead of 1. I will read future books by this author, in the hopes that she maintains her friendly writing style but has more likeable characters.
