I found the story to be just ok. I loved Amber's sections. Lorna's were more slow and harder to get through. A typical old house story. Mom dies, dad remarries a woman who doesn't like the dad's kids, sister falls for step brother. People die. Someone in current times tries to unravel the history of the family. Current-time lady's story is entangled with the original family's story. I felt like the dad remarrying and growing somewhat distant from the children is an over-used story line. I was also able to guess what the twist was going to be the moment Amber met Lucian. I did enjoy the way grief affected everyone differently.

Enjoyable if predictable read

Well, well, well what a surprising little read. Of course I was reading this via audiobook so maybe that's why it felt so long but I almost did not complete this. I felt the characters stories were nonsensical and served no purpose (but it could have been the books reader) but the climax came and boy did it not let up. I was pleasantly surprised and ended up enjoying the book.

Black Rabbit Hall is about a home in England, in present day and in the 1960s. The narration switches back and forth between its two main characters Amber and Lorna. Amber is one of 4 children who summer in Black Rabbit Hall. When their mother dies in a tragic accident, they are forced to cope and move forward, despite grief, guilt, and an awful new stepmother. Lorna, the modern-day character, is a bride-to-be who is looking for wedding venues and is inexplicably drawn to Black Rabbit Hall, now practically in ruins and occupied by two very odd women. The story was captivating and moved at a good pace, revealing secrets at opportune times, but spacing them out enough to keeping the reader interested. It wasn't anything that has never been done before, but it was done well enough that it was enjoyable.
