I wanted a little more from his take on this subject. Where there was good information on how algorithms have effected consumerism and capitalism, I couldn't help but feel like this was a little too high brow. The beauty of all the content is accessibility. I've found things I'd never have found before because I've curated which people I follow, leading to new and diverse experiences. Accessibility is the beauty of modern internet culture.

DID NOT FINISH: 15%

wanted to learn how algorithms work and I did in the first 15%. Pretty dry reading.

"In a way, this book is an attempt to recapture recommendations from recommender systems. We should talk even more about the things we like, experience them together, and build up our own careful collections of likes and dislikes. Not for the sake of fine-tuning an algorithm, but for our collective satisfaction."

This book started with promise - a fascinating insight (and somewhat a warning) into the algorithm's effects on culture and an exploration of individuality (or a loss thereof!).

Unfortunately, towards the end, it started to unravel into lengthy and repetitive tangents—if I hadn't been listening to the audiobook, I likely would have started skimming the latter half.

Ultimately, Filterworld had an interesting premise with some good insights and its heart in the right place, but definitely could have benefited from some tightening!

Tbh this didn’t need to be a full book … a long form article would suffice

there are some neat insights in here but honestly this book could have been an email, or like maybe a podcast episode

Interesting analysis of how algorithms have influenced different aspects of culture and how we can resist their influences. Made me think a lot about how to better curate what I consume.
