Someone, please cue Taylor Swift's "Enchanted"

I didn't expect to relate to so many aspects in this book. They live in Washington State, so do I. Nate's poor, same. Kate's dad is all over the damn place emotionally, and so is Mine.

I love the characters' meet cute moment, and then a few chapters later, it feels like your hearts getting ripped out of your chest.

"Please Don't Be In Love With Someone Else"

Same, because it felt like the moment Nate and Kate had a moment, it was soiled. I loved the ending, but I wish it ended differently. Overall, I loved this book!

This was such a fun book. I’m a sucker for fun zombie stories and this was all that and more. We’re following Nate and Kate as they are both dealing with their senior years of high school and the struggles that come with that. On top of this, Nate goes to a private school on scholarship and another student is trying to bribe him into getting bad grades. While Kate’s dad is incredibly wealthy, but Kate’s home life is anything but good. I really liked the contrast between these two characters. I thought it was really interesting to show how money does not equal happiness. I liked the different family dynamics. Nate has two parents that really love one another and a younger sister that’s constantly in his stuff. Kate’s mom died years ago and her dad hasn’t been a dad to her since then. He’s always away on business but also manages to still know all of her business. I thought it was interesting that though their situations were different they both felt a bit suffocated in their lives.
I also totally loved the survivalist competition. I loved Nate and Kate as a team. I really liked how they complimented on another. They were also both realistic characters. Kate always worrying about her sweaty hands and Nate was an awkward teenage boy with a crush on a girl.
Overall, I had fun with this one. This would be a good book for spooky season because of the realistic zombies. I liked the characters. I was happy with the ending. I’d definitely recommend this one.

“Nate Kim. And Kate. Kate Kim. Nate and Kate Kim. I liked the sound of that.”

Nate Jae-Woo Kim wants to be rich. Kate Anderson wants a new beginning away from her domineering father. Nate and Kate happen to meet at the zombie-themed escape room they both work at and sparks fly immediately. With a shared secret interest in making money, they decide to team up to try to win a weekend-long survivalist competition with a large cash prize. With feelings and frights, who knows if they’ll make it through the weekend.

Nate and Kate are such lovable characters that you will fly right through reading this book. They are quirky and determined… and a little awkward lol. This story is sweet and funny, and I really enjoyed the dynamic between the two main characters.

I wish there were a few more scenes in the zombie-themed escape room because it was a fun part of the book, but also I understand it’s not supposed to be the main focus. However, the main focus felt unclear… is it the competition? Is it the romance? The idea of a survivalist competition is so fun, but there wasn’t enough of the actual competition and it felt rushed. I wish a few previous chapters were omitted in order for a better focus on the survivalist competition as well as Nate and Kate’s bonding during that weekend.

Overall, a lovely YA romance with fun characters and settings. I would definitely recommend this to those in their teens or anyone who just loves reading about young love (and zombies)!

I picked this up because I've been in the mood for contemporary romance, and it was one of the planned buddy reads this month. I liked the basic storyline of the two teens that meet in an escape room while they both have some things they want to escape from in their own lives. Kate wants to escape the tyranny of her father and his prison of tech. Nate wants to escape his family's poor lifestyle. Together they come up with a plan that could make both of those escapes happen.

I like Kate a lot. She was kind and compassionate and was still grieving not only her mother, but her entire life before she lost her. Nate... well Nate annoyed me at times. He wasn't poor. The kid was involved in numerous extracurriculars and had more than enough. It's obvious that his parents work hard for what they have, so it's annoying the way Nate views it.

Otherwise, I was ok with him. There were (for the third book in a row for me) some mean boy/girl situations, and I appreciate they have what was coming to them. There were some elements that showed money can keep you from a lot of consequences. Isn't that annoying?

It's a super cute read if you want something light and fluffy.

*This book was given to me by the publisher to give an honest review in return*
More of a 3.5./ 5 stars.
This book was interesting and nothing I have read before. This is the first book that I have read with "zombies" in it. Also with the main characters working at an escape room. This book was well written and I loved how the story flowed. As you can see on Goodreads, it says (Perfect Escape, #1) which makes me think there will be a second book or it's those series with different main characters. I hope there isn't a second book with the same characters because, in my opinion, I liked how the story ended. I don't think there needs to be a second book with the same main characters.
I love how there is an American-Korean male/white female love story. Most writers don't do mix race love stories which I hate. I do think there are more different race love stories but just not enough. This was also a slow burn love story with a love triangle in it. The love triangle is kind of faint because it's obvious that the main characters, Nate and Kate, will end up together.
It was nice seeing how each character solved their issues and problems in the book but the main issue was their names. It was a little hard for me to focus because of it. But it was nice to see how Nate and Kate solved their problems. Nate and his family had financial problems while Kate had an overprotecting dad. The reason I gave this book 3.5 stars was because the book wasn't a rom-com. It wasn't that funny when it was supposed to be. It was also kind of basic like the romance was more love at first sight which I hate. I had mixed feelings about this book because I liked it and also didn't like it.

I thought it was a quick, fun summer read with a lot of dry humor. Nothing special but it was still entertaining and a feel good story.

Read this one right after liking Loathe at First Sight but this was disappointing from start to finish. I liked the idea of the two potential love birds getting together during a multi day zombie themed adventure race but that part actually seemed rushed and the not focus as I expected it to be.

Quick read so very little investment here but I’d skip this one if I were you.

Not that good; it mentioned sweat a lot in the first half of the book? Very stereotypical and the ending just came out of nowhere. Didn't feel connected to the characters. The evil father somehow gets a redemption from his daughter which also makes zero sense. I wasn't able to connect with the characters and the MCS friendships felt unrealistic. I wish we could have seen more scenes that showed MC and her friends' previous relationships. This book was flat and hard to read.

3.5 stars, rounding up to 4 because it definitely kept me turning pages! It... was a romcom? But the movie thriller kind, where the plot gets ridiculously over the top with bad guys and twists and turns. I liked both characters, loved Nate's family, especially loved how things resolved with them.

One big thing though: it's really, really hard for me to trust that she's safe from her abusive dad, and that's also where the plot falls apart. Like, he's not Richard Spier overprotective after Mary Anne's mom dies... he's legitimately, frighteningly controlling. He said he was flying to Japan but was actually monitoring the contest in Seattle and secretly intimidating Nate? Does that mean he knew all along? He tracked every call and and how many minutes it was plus her GPS, but she can still take Uber to (secret) work and this whole weekend thing? Uber tracks everything and you can't pay with cash! Also she thinks she can get away from her terrifying surveillance dad and his robot for an entire weekend in secret to do this thing with no cover story? And then at the end she's in NY doing theatre and her dad has... reformed? I don't trust him to have changed his behavior or habits and he certainly has the resources to continue stalking/surveiling her. So that took me out of the story a fair bit. I feel like he could have been less villainous and terrifying and the story could have worked better.

But if you thought of it like a ridiculous movie thriller romcom, that works! Will be getting for my library for sure.
