Caroline Hirons has a wonderful knack for simplifying skin care concepts. I was a beauty editor for three years, and frankly felt burnt out on the topic, but this streamlined back-to-basics has reined me back in. Her book is a solid reference to have on hand—it did leave me with questions that go beyond the basics (also I really wanted her to dish more industry gossip, but she was too dignified for that!), so hopefully she’ll write a follow up!

3.5 Stars. I'm a huge fan of Caroline, her incredible beauty knowledge, sense of humour and the energetic way she speaks but a lot of this info was not new to me and can be found on her blog/socials.
informative medium-paced

4.5

I was about to say I wish I hadn't read this as an audiobook, but then I reached the outtakes.

I borrowed this book from my local library but I am going to buy it. A great reference point with product recommendations!

This book is brilliant and Caroline is a no non-sense kind of person I need in my self care life. At times I was elated that I was doing the right thing and equally chastised for being susceptible to Instagram ads....even my boss pointed this out :) I read this book cover to cover and will refer to it before buying anything new--it has helpful guide in the back for most major brands. In the long run this may help me save money by focusing my purchasing. Each section comes with products she recommends and reminds you, you do not need to use the whole brand line to see results. One last note, if something is working for you, do not feel obligated to change.

1. Caroline, like me, is very anti-wipes. Bad for the environment, not great for your skin and should only be used for traveling/camping or musical festivals.

2. General rule: invest in skin care, not makeup.

3. Avoid sheet masks, if you take care of your skin, they are unnecessary. If you don't take care of your skin they will do nothing to help. She admits to occasionally wearing them on flights, but also bad for the environment so avoid.

This book is responsible for me spending £9000 on Cult Beauty and now smugly saying things like, “you know, you really need to be using at least two types of acid exfoliators”

Quite repetitive but very informative
I’m sure this info is all spelt out on her website if you can be bothered to piece it all together but I got this on kindle for 99p so not complaining

Highly informative and fascinating, read in one sitting and took notes the entire time. Highly recommend
