On one hand, everything in here is reeeeeally surface-level due to the length of the bios. On the other, Bagieu focuses on an interesting assortment of stories with wildly different scopes and lots of intersectional considerations. Even when she's being quick, she makes sure to include a range of information and tries to capture nuance. It isn't always effective (I have thoughts about some of the choices made here), but I would hope that many readers will follow up on the pieces that spoke to them. I personally added a couple of bios to my TBR and looked up videos and art in between sections to learn more. I am a whole adult, but given that this is a meant for younger readers, I think it's a good collection not only to showcase a wide range of experiences and places, but also to show various ways that people, especially girls, can impact the world around them. There are some fun easter eggs in the art, too.
Not only is Bagieu's artwork fabulous, but the stories behind each and every woman she draws is also heartwarming and sometimes heartbreaking. Growing up, I can think of only a few women who were touted as extraordinary people (and I'm only 26)! This work provides an ample amount of women who deserve to be recognized for their actions big and small, all of whom were just living life as they saw fit. Plus, this book is diverse AF and I think that's not only wonderful but needed.

Really enjoyed this graphic novel! The illustrations are gorgeous and are a huge part of why I loved this book. The stories are fascinating and it was fun to learn about some badass women that have shaped history and changed the world!

This book was lovely. A collection of short, illustrated, biographies of different women from a wide collection of countries and areas. I was pleasantly surprised. Often after reading I would find myself googling different woman and reading more information about the person.
I did find a couple mistakes in the cartoons--- or facts that contradicted themselves within the actual comic. My one negative comment is that I wish each "chapter" was a little bit longer--- I would have preferred more information.
Read- if you enjoy biographies and graphic novels.
(Also...a great starting point for a presentation, research or to introduce a person.)
