I've probably read this book over 20 times. I remember receiving it as a birthday present when I was a little child and falling in love with the story. I read it over and over and over, I knew the story by heart. It's a book that has stuck with me and I cannot objectively review or rate it. I deduced a star because from the present perspective, it just isn't a 5-star book. The 7-year-old me is probably disgusted by me, as it truly was one of my favourite books. The storyline is great, but overall the book has a small lacklustre feeling to it. Sadly, the book did not linger in my brain after finishing it, which is a quality a book must possess in order to receive a full-star-rating.

I love Roald Dahl's books. This has a brief link to the BFG. It was engaging short story about a boy and his father. It was heartwarming the way they bond over pheasant hunting. You can see the need for Danny to please his father. It is a must-read if you enjoy Charlie and the Chocolate Factory or James and the Giant Peach.

This story, although with some wacky bits, is just a true blue story about a boy, his dad, and the love they have for one another. It warms my heart!

Väldigt mysig berättelse och väldigt påhittig! Tyckte att illustrationerna begynnande läsningen något otroligt och det var lite av allt möjligt i denna blandning. Påhittig, rättvis och modig far. Tjuvjakt. Härliga karaktärer.

When I get disillusioned by the banal politically correct state of modern children's literature, I have to go back and read something from the 1970s. Roald Dahl is a twisted genius and this is one of the best.

Young Danny is swept along in his father's revenge scheme that involves drugging wildlife to spoil a neighbor's party.

This book is not for everyone, but if you are the wrong sort of person, it will make you cackle dementedly like you're an old lady tripping a running child with your cane.

BONUS audiobook excellence by Peter Serafinowicz.

This wasn't my most favorite Roald Dahl book but it certainly was a wonderful read all the same. Dahl really has some of the greatest books for kids, in my opinion. They're all deep and thoughtful but fun and just the right amount of weird. I really enjoy how Dahl writes for a younger audience without dumbing things down, he writes as though children will understand deeper topics (feelings, loneliness, hard decisions, etc). This was probably the least weird book from Dahl that I've read but it was lovely. Danny and his father have a touching relationship and bond that made me smile and their adventures were great. I imagine this would be a lot more touching/emotional for dads with sons/men with fond memories of their own dads, the dad-daughter dynamic is more represented and often different. Still, definitely worth the read, I'll always recommend Roald Dahl to everyone and anyone.
