I knew that the GDT trilogy was basically vacation reading at the time I started this one, however this particular book took a Brazilian Soap opera nosedive halfway through - with all the back and forth inept spying, far-fetched revelations on family connections and so forth and I just couldn't finish it.
I was hesitant to read this book, knowing that in my history I haven't done well with stories continuing after the author has passed, but I was pleased by what Lagercrantz was able to pull off. I even found myself forgetting that this story was written by another author, and at one point I muttered to myself, "man, Larson really knows how to write some fucking evil characters."
One of the things I was especially impressed with in the first three books was Larson's depiction of Salander and her hacking skills. I typically don't like stories that feature hackers because a lot of authors really like to just say "she hacked in" and then they're in. Having an actual procedure to follow makes the book seem more realistic, and I like it.

I didn’t expect much from this book and I didn’t get much. Lizbeth isn’t really a strong character and the story isn’t worth much. I don’t know why they continue to run with this series after the authors death. Cash grab and nothing else.

I enjoyed hanging out with some of my favorite characters. However this book was weak compared to the others.
medium-paced
Not as graphic and violent as the previous books, but just as much adventure and intrigue!
I always struggle with sequels published long after the originals in a series; I think it's because having read the original trilogy so many times, any new developments in the story start out ringing false to me. And of course, Spider's Web is not written by Larsson, so there's that. Despite all of this, however, I do not at all feel I wasted my time with this new installment in Lisbeth Salandar's adventures, even though she is honestly one of my very favorite fictional characters. I have to admit I missed Larsson's ridiculously detailed accounts of his characters' routines, and no one drank nearly enough coffee, but otherwise I really appreciated how Spider's Web brought Blomkvist and Salandar's Stockholm into the modern day and would recommend the book to fans of the original trilogy.
