The Girl in the Spider's Web: Continuing Stieg Larsson's Dragon Tattoo Series
David Lagercrantz
I read the three “Millennium” books penned by Steig Larsson as they were released. I was hesitant to continue after Larsson’s death when David Lagercrantz took over the series. All I can say is that it was silly of me to wait until now to read this fourth book. I liked it just as much as Larsson’s original ones. I completely forgot how good the characters are from this series. Now I can’t wait to read number five.
While decidedly less graphic, Lagercrantz did a wonderful job stepping in for Larsson and bringing back our beloved characters. I was a bit torn on the idea of another author using Larsson's notes to create a fourth book but I think Lagercrantz honored the author's voice. The entire plot was interesting and gripping and a wonderful way to end the series. It's actually left quite open for another book but I'm not sure if there are any plans to do so. A nice swan song for Lisbeth and Blomkvist.
Millenium właśnie minęło
Słabizna. Właściwie nie ma tu nic z rzeczy, które tak przyciągały w oryginalnej trylogii Larssona. Postacie niby te same, ale nie takie same. Fabuła – tu nie ma co nawet porównywać. Chęć sięgnięcia po następny tom – zerowa.

The plot twist here or the reveal is very obvious I thought. Plus there’s the cheesy feeling of the spiders/wasp stuff - and it goes against the original books explanation for why she calls herself wasp
Just like the previous three Lisbeth Salander novels... minus the complex characterizations, relationships, plot and overall details... but other than that exactly the same.
Pretty good standard thriller. I think Lagercrantz mostly got the feel of the original books, but I still would have preferred to see Larsson's unfinished work fleshed out. Unfortunately, that's not likely to happen since that work is in the possession of Larsson's (unofficial since they weren't married) widow. I had some scruples about reading it for that reason alone, but figured I would check it out since they are making a movie from it.
I will say that Lagercrantz had the advantage of being a more experienced fiction writer than Larsson was when he wrote the original trilogy, but I think Larsson's style also improved and became tighter with each progressing book. No doubt, had he lived, his future books would have reflected this.

3.5 Wow honestly this whole series is a crazy ride. First off, for this book being an add on to the original trilogy, I think it did a pretty good job picking things up. The only negative is that the prose and overall story is just generally weaker, and it doesn't seem connected as well as the first three book were, which felt like a perfect intertwined narrative.
The book wasn't bad at all, but it took really long to set up, didn't move at fast, and idk but something was missing. Like the other books felt genius with the complexity and the way the plot moved throughout, and this one felt just a little more messy, with things being thrown around and not fitting just right in the overall story. Still a good read, but the end wasn't super satisfying like they usually are, and Salander just wasn't hitting the same. If it was a shorter book I would've ate this up, but it just felt long and dragged tbh.
-Oh i will say though, I think it was super real to show Blomkvist years after his big breaks and his falling off. Like he had those two to three crazy stories, but ofc that energy is gonna fall, so its interesting to see him in his career a decade later, and shows honestly a lot of development for him.
