For an author who is picking up from another's legacy, it's pretty good. It seemed that there may have been too many subplots for Lagercrantz to manage and the story may have been better is one or two of them had been cut out.
adventurous
mysterious
medium-paced
3.5 really. captured the characters nicely but not the most sophisticated of thrillers
True to the original author's style and pacing, but ultimately not as riveting nor rewarding. Still a worthwhile read.
Oh, and I read the English translation!

Either I have my expectations are getting too high or I just haven't read much that is decent recently. The fourth book of "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo" series seemed to hit a lull in the story. I still respect the author, but I got the vibe that the story is just being strung along. Stop a good thing while it is still good! I am unsure if I will read the fifth book at this point.
Read the original Swedish version.
A very disappointing experience for me. I really really wanted to like it. I suffered through the whole thing in the hopes it would get better. The original triology are an easy 5 out of 5, a unique experience and among my favorite books ever. Sadly the new author completely failed to capture what made them great in my opinion.
The book tries very hard to have a sexy noir mystery vibe, and ends up being shallow, objectifying and frankly, boring. The emotional gut punches are gone. The feminist edge is missing. The elements of social commentary, emotional catharsis and antihero revenge are nowhere to be found. And it's all the more noticable because the original books did it so well.
Now the characters, male and female, are cardboard cutouts of what they should be. They're just not believable. And I wish I had a nickel for every time the narrator tries to introduce a character only to get awkwardly hung up on their looks. Then the book would at least have paid for itself.

Me ha gustado bastante. Me he llevado una sorpresa muy agradable con este libro. Realmente no esperaba gran cosa de una continuación creada por un autor diferente al original, sin embargo debo decir que he quedado muy satisfecha con esta lectura.

Way too many ellipses
The writing style was rather distracting from the tale. Only finished reading it for closure. Will not be bothering with any future episodes

Enjoyable story but felt two dimensional compared to the Stieg Laarson original's in this story. I don't quite buy the whole savant able to break encryption keys subplot either.
