An insightful, accessible, academic deconstruction and examination of color-blind racism, chock-full of empirical evidence, specific examples, and straightforward explanations about the harm caused and possible steps to remediation. Highly recommend, for white folks especially.

An absolute must read for all people, especially white folks.

I've been on a journey to overcome internalized white supremacy for a few years now, and I still found these perspectives thought provoking.

That being said, it's very information based and might be difficult to access, or get through, if you struggle with reading certain types of books. Still, I'd encourage everyone to try giving it a go.

An important read especially during this time. Governments, institutions, policies, and the overall immeasurable ways in which systemic and structural racism (overt or subtle) exists and continues, needs to be addressed, and entirely dismantled (no matter how long that takes) if we are to have even a semblance of socioeconomic, racial, and gender equity in N.America. We need to learn how to be anti-racist and to continuously evaluate, and confront how privilege has maintained BIPOC's oppression for hundreds of years. This can't be a fad. We have to keep learning and doing better in confronting injustices aimed at BIPOCs which strips them of power, over and over. We've got a whole lot of work to do!

Bonilla-Silva's phrase "rhetorical incoherence" is my favorite part of this book. He puts the inhibitions and inconsistencies of the dominant ideology of race on display, after carefully defining his terms and setting expectations.

It's academic, and at the end, polemical. At times it assumes the reader has no modern concept of racism, and at others, that they're fully on board. Those factors make it hard to recommend without caveat, but I will say the verbatim interview excerpts do well over audiobook!
