Ummmmmm..... no. I finished this, but it is not the book for me. It’s a best friend’s favorite from adolescence, so I stuck with it. But honestly, if you think the name “Mrs. Mike” sounds as antiquated and cringe-worthy as I do, it’s not the book for you either. At one point, Mrs. gets a spanking from Mr., so again..... just no. Also, lots of animals die.
The story was riveting and made up somewhat for the unimaginative writing. I think this is based on a true story? If I'd gone in expecting more of a biography, I wouldn't have been as harsh a critic on the writing style.
I enjoyed this story...plenty of romance for girls and rugged, outdoor adventure for guys. Very well written.

Hmmm... I read this because it had a similar setting and plot as Tisha but this was just not it for me. The treatment of Native Americans by the main character made me feel gross. Also, she is 16 and a 27 year old man falls in love with her?? This is insta love at its finest and I didn’t even feel like they loved each other. There was no depth to the characters and I was just getting mad at them in every scene.

I first read this when I was about 13 or 14 years old and remembered it fondly. After all these years I was afraid it might be too sanitized for my grown-up self. I needn't have worried. Pollyanna Sunshine is nowhere to be found, and my years of life experience only made the book more meaningful for me. This is a realistic account of the joys and hardships of life in northern Alberta in the early 1900s. I grew so attached to Mike and Katherine that I wanted the story to keep going. It's not surprising that the book has remained popular for over fifty years. Have your tissues ready for the last few chapters.
An oldie, but goodie! This was a pleasure to read. I liked the characters and it was a sweet story.
I read this book when I was like 10 or 11. One of the first romances I can remember reading. I was enthralled with asthmatic (I think she had asthma) Mary Katherine's new life on the frontier, and loved Mike. Pretty sexy stuff for a 11 year old.
Mrs. Mike is about Kathy, a young woman who falls in love with Mike the Mounty. They live in the Canadian wilderness.
The story and writing reminds me of the 'Little House' books except it's for an older audience than grade school age.
