I need to know what happens next!

Typical hero on a quest story but with some interesting twists.

Starts off very conventional and then takes a hard right turn into "what the fuck just happened", don't get me wrong, it's still suffers from the hero who always finds the magical way within himself to save the day against all odds, but it is a fun read with just enough differences to stand out against the fantasy herd....3.5

The premise of the story is interesting; what happens when the Chosen One fails? There is also a Gods plot line, which had the potential of being interesting.

However, despite the intriguing themes, it was difficult to read. The writing is flat— the world building is lackluster and not very descriptive; there seems to be this baseline assumption the reader knows the author’s intent imo. There is no emotional depth to characters or to the storyline thereby creating a lack of investment in the characters or the outcome. Ultimately, I became bored and uninterested very quickly due to key missing elements (i.e.: world building, character development, emotional depth). DNF- stopped at page 74.

I'm really not sure what to think of this novel. I love the cover... and loved the story behind the dust jacket, but what I got was... different. After pondering this for days, I think the issue is that the author's scene transitions were not clear, and it was clear that some characters were 'mortal' and others were divinity until later in the book. There is also a 'surprise' early on that I didn't like and frankly nothing came of it during the entire novel. I spent the whole novel wondering if there would be a reversal of that surprise and its wasn't... and I was surprise and shocked. And why did the forester keep talking to … well, you'll figure that out.

There was a lot to like about the novel, but too much to give it a 4 stars...

We'll see if I read book 2 - depends on the reviews.

3.5 I’m perplexed. It was too short and too long with so many characters. It was certainly an introduction , intrigued enough to continue but not at the top of my list

DID NOT FINISH: 50%

I was just so bored and the truth is at the half way point I wanted to read other things then finish the last 150 pages

This is very likely going to be the last book I read in this year, and in this decade! That’s such a strange thing to think about. Time moves so fast, it’s hard to keep up sometimes…

This was a pretty good book. It’s the first in a series, and it ended on a nice little cliffhanger, so I’m excited to continue the story. I typically wait until there are at least two or three books published before starting a series, because I tend to enjoy binging these kinds of stories more than waiting years for the next one.

Aaslo is the unintentional protagonist of this story, and he has been tasked with saving the world against an impending attack by the gods after the initial battle plans went horribly, horribly wrong. He and a little gang of misfits that gather around him along the way work together to figure out how they just might achieve the impossible.

We don’t get a whole lot of resolution in this first book, but it was entertaining enough that I’ll certainly pick up the next one when it comes out. Also, there’s magic galore in this story, and who doesn’t love magic?
