⭐️⭐️ didn’t like/was readable but didn’t enjoy it
There were elements of Harry Potter & Percy Jackson in this book, but somehow it still missed the mark. This book almost immediately jumped into the action scenes without allowing us to get to know the main characters a little bit first and that really set it on a bad path. From there I felt very annoyed and confused with decisions made by all of the characters. Most of their actions felt overly dramatic or just plain dumb.

The characters were kind of stereotypical and annoying, but I really enjoyed the worldbuilding aspects, and the sensory descriptions of magic-casting. Made use of lots of tropes/cliches, so I'd put this in the "has potential" category, but alas, execution left me underwhelmed.

The Alchemyst (My Kindle Review)
The series first centers on medieval alchemist Nicholas Flamel who along his wife Perenelle has been living as immortals for many centuries with the help of a book known as the Codex. Now living quietly as a bookseller, Flamel will bring teenage twins Sophia and Josh Newman into the magical mess when magician John Dee is attempting to get the Codex and it’s missing pages in order to summon the end of the world. The Newman twins will now find themselves on a magical journey to fight for their lives and even gain magical abilities of their own.
While I’ve read similar fantasy series like “TINF”, the twins and Flamel’s adventure is still a great read. Its lore is certainly a bit like “Harry Potter” while the story also felt a little like “Percy Jackson”. The final chapters are definitely when the story gets into a serious twist involving the twins’ futures. Another spellbinding series for fantasy readers. A- (91%/Excellent)

Sympa, l'univers est original et intéressant mais j'hésite à continuer cette saga... l'écriture n'est pas transcendante et les personnes un peu trop clichés. À suivre
...gave it up. The book was a waste of time and I'm not bothering reading any other book of this series.
It's nothing against the author, but this book...I just can't. It's like... 'MEH'. Yes, 'MEH' is the correct word. But well...
