This book was good. Not great. Not page turning. But good. This was the first time in a long time that my editing brain wouldn't leave me alone. I had a hard time just enjoying the story because on every page I ran across odd editing decisions that I would have changed. Plus, Scott doesn't use the serial comma. For the love of Pete, who doesn't use serial commas? It was annoying.

But for the most part, it was an entertaining story. It's another one of those "hey guess what, the myths you thought were fake are actually true" stories. And unfortunately, it's not the best written. It is enjoyable, but I'm not sure I'll be reading the other five books in the series.

I went into this book pretty excited to read about Nicholas Flamel. And found the character lacking, he just didn't have enough depth to be immortal, in my opinion. He was boring and manipulative. The characters that most interested me in this book were the side characters Scathach & Hekate. The things that are most important to me in fantasy books are world-building and character development. The world-building when they visited Hekate was decent. I would love to visit her tree. There was some foreshadowing of character development to come in later books from the series, but the book did not hook me enough to continue reading the series.

I love books that weave actual historical points into an otherwise completely fictional story and this one does it well. Very interesting take on different creatures and such in stories and where those stories came from.

Top 20 favourite books.

struggled w/ the art a bit & the story was a lil more disjointed in the graphic novel but still an enjoyable read

Quick and easy YA. novel - could put this series in my classroom
