It was a really good book. A little slow to start but about 1/4 of the way in it picks up and becomes more interesting. Not sure if I will read the next ones but may give it a try if I have the time.

its so weird seeing this as a graphic novel after so many years existing in my head only and then one very strange youtube video

Sophie and Josh are working their summer jobs when they are plunged into a battle that has been happening for centuries … literally. It turns out that Nicholas Flamel is Josh’s employer, and he is over 600 years old. Nicholas discovered the Book of Abraham the Mage (better known as the Codex) and has been brewing the elixir of life every month for centuries. Dr. John Dee is a former student of Nicholas and has been hunting him in order to take the Codex for himself. Who else will join this adventure? What hidden truths will the twins uncover?

The Alchemyst: The Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel Graphic Novel is a reimagining of the original tale. Readers who have enjoyed the Alchemyst series will find this adventure just as appealing. Those who are new to the story will be clamoring for more. The graphics are wonderful, and the story is great, but readers should know that this is almost all character development and leaves everyone without a lot of answers. A good adaptation and I can’t wait for the next installment.

Love this book series - very quick and easy read and the writing style really connects with me. I love the references to historical figures and myths that seemed to be really well-researched. The characters are well-written and fleshed out and the story is fun and compelling.

I read this because my son (11j is a fan. It’s an engaging story and has an interesting cast of characters from various mythologies, with an added element of magical abilities that the teenage twin protagonists must learn to harness. I was weirdly put off by 2 aspects of this magical universe — the role of “auras” and the proposal that archaeology and paleontology are wrong and the earth is only a few thousand years old. I usually love counterfactual worlds, but these beliefs just feel too close to common fallacies in the real world. Nevertheless I’m proceeding with the series to find out what happens to Scathatch, the Flamels, Josh, and Sophie.

2.5

I would give this book 4 1/2 stars. It was engaging, and the plot definitely held my attention. Even though it is a young adult book, I found the writing lacking and simplistic at time. That said, I will be reading the sequels!

DID NOT FINISH: 34%

I read this book as a teen. While I finished it I remember not enjoying it as much. This is still true, I cannot pinpoint why, tough.

Pretty nice. Will definitely finish the series, if only to see what happens to the kids. (And... you know. They're good kids, but they're definitely very much 15-year-old kids. Warning or lure, that's what I see!)

Still one of my all time favourite series and the only one of which I own all the books of the main series in physical form! Originally read it in the official Dutch translation, but now that I read more English books I'm thinking of reading the English versions because it has been a while since I've read them.
