This was an unexpected pleasure to read. I liked the way the author tried to use myths and legends and created a world in which these myths and legends are true. Although I found the storyline sometimes a little "simple", it was never boring. I'm very curious about book 2.
It wasn’t as interesting because the story was kinda boring

The Alchemyst was something that I had been looking forward to read for a while. Harry Potter and Philosopher Stone had already introduced me to the character of Nicholas Flamel and left me wanting to know about him. I was not dissapointed. Although it is not the best book I have ever read it was certainly very entertaining as it was a quick and fast-paced read.
SPOILER ALERT:
What did I like about the book?
The Pace: The book only describes two days out of the lives of the main characters Sophie and Josh Newman. This could have become very dreadfull but I didn't because it left ample room for a lot of details. In this case the details really add to the story and they do not feel like they were merely there to fill space.
The mystery regarding Flamel's intentions:
After finishing this book I still was not quite sure about Flamel's intentions with the twins. Does he really want to protect the human race or does he have ulterior motives? John Dee did shed a new light on the decisions Flamel made throughout the book and there might be a sliver of truth. I'll have to read The Magician to see on what side Flamel is really on.
The mythology:
I love history, and anything remotely related to it. I recognized most of the mythological figures Michael Scott used which actually makes the story more credible.
