I really am loving this series! It’s def has some darker scenes than I’m used to from Devney but I don’t mind it. I like seeing how versatile her writing is between all the series. Pres and Shaw had so much to work to do (both solo and together) and I loved seeing them get their HEA.

Stone Princess is an emotional story with tragic backstories, learning to trust, and a touch of suspense.

Presley is one of the most strong FMC's I've ever read. She comes from an abusive home and has been in a relationship that has probably hurt her more than help her. Thankfully she sees his true colors. When Shaw comes to town with a production crew to film a movie about the town murder, Presley gives him the cold shoulder. He is charming and kind and everything she needs. As they get to know one another, trust and feelings build. I love Presley and Shaw so much! You could feel their emotions through the pages. I absolutely could not put this book down!

I received an ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review.

Note: There is a content warning at the very end of my review.

I loved the first two books in the Tin Gypsy series, but Stone Princess missed the mark for me. Each book in this series is a standalone, but I recommend reading in order. Stone Princess is really well-written (it is Devney Perry), but the main characters and the weird and toxic dynamics in this book just didn't work for me personally. It would be impossible for me to explain why I didn't like this book without any spoilers, so the rest of my review will contain spoilers.

SpoilerPresley Marks is devastated when her boyfriend Jeremiah leaves her at the altar. When Hollywood star, Shaw Valance, comes into town, Presley basically has a fling with him. They don't start off on the right foot though. Presley hates Shaw in the beginning because he is in town to make a movie about the murder of Genevieve's mom. Shaw and Presley both have very interesting backstories, but they are ultimately bland and annoying characters. I didn’t connect with either of them. I didn’t feel the chemistry at all. Stone Princess is definitely steamier than books 1 and 2, but it lacks the strong chemistry and the emotional intensity that made me fall in love with the series in the first place. Shaw and Presley fall in love way too quickly and they begin trusting each other very early on even though they barely know each other. It just didn’t feel authentic to me. Shaw is also very nosy and pushy, which made me want to punch him in the face many times.

The story is slow-paced and the suspense aspect of the book is pretty much nonexistent until the very end. Stone Princess is not much of a romantic suspense compared to the stellar mystery arc that ran through books 1 and 2. I hated the fact that Presley allowed her ex, Jeremiah, to walk all over her. She does eventually stand up to him, but man, her relationship with him was just so damn toxic. Not to mention that Jeremiah actually used to date her twin sister, Scarlett, which is just so freaking weird and gross. Moreover, Jeremiah and Scarlett were sleeping with each other while Jeremiah was still engaged to Presley! Scarlett even points out that both she and Presley lost their virginity to Jeremiah. Gross. I’m not a fan of sisters dating the same man, even more so when there is cheating. This weird ass love triangle was so toxic and it PISSED ME OFF! And now it looks like Scarlett will end up with Luke Rosen, who ALSO dates Presley at one point in Stone Princess. Oh, and by the way, Presley kisses Shaw while she is still dating Luke, so there's more cheating here. Presley and Luke never actually slept with each other, but it is still so weird that these twin sisters end up dating the same two men. At least Shaw and Scarlett weren’t a thing.

Anyway, whether you like this book or not all comes down to personal preference. I am simply not a fan of weird and messy love triangles–and there were TWO love triangles here with TWIN SISTERS involved. It was weird, toxic, and icky for me. Other readers might be less picky about this and that is absolutely okay. But personally, it just isn’t for me.
