This was fun! The world building was creative and characters were fun. Some parts of the plot were very predictable, and knowing it started as a Kylo/Rey Star Wars fanfic was the only reason the ending made sense to me. But I enjoyed the read.

The writing was really rough at first—the characters didn’t feel fully fleshed out and the fight scenes were awkward. I didn’t really know who Talasyn was until too far into the book. The plot also seemed pretty far-fetched and contrived at first. But the writing really started to improve about the time Talasyn started living in Nenavar. Things slowly started to come together, the characters became actual people. The romance started rough, but I ended up mostly enjoying their relationship developing. I wish she had done more world-building—I never fully figured out the magic system.

Let me start with saying that I enjoyed this book. This book had more plot and world building than actual character-building development. The dialogue between the two MCs felt forced at times. Given their ages (FMC is 20//MMC is 27) I expected more maturity. The scenery and descriptions is what drew me in. Most fantasy novel I have read draw heavily from European, Russian or Middle Eastern mythology. This story, in my mind, drew inspiration from southern Asia and the south pacific. At times throughout the book, I also got Grishaverse vibes from our two MCs.
Overall, I will continue the series to see how it continues.
