I feel like was just waiting for more than meh world building. Once the romance started up I was still just kind of glazed over from the world building.
This suffers I think because it didn’t have enough laying out the world and relied on you knowing it was fic. I think if we had trimmed up the opening to get to the romance faster it would have been great.

started off thinking this was a shadow & bone reboot, ended with the dismayed conviction that it's a blatant reylo fanfic, maybe with a dash of atla that isn't enough to redeem it.
normally i like descriptive writing, too, but the first couple of chapters were just too much.
lots of sloppy things about it, which is a shame, because i am a little interested in the world and magic system mechanics, but not interested in reylo.

this had a slow start, but the enemies to lover development with double POV is so chefs kiss. The character's motivations and feelings are believable, but there are some plot holes. It could also just be me, but the magic system was a bit confusing because it seemed like things were possible for the convenience of the story. Overall, still had a fun time reading this.

Very clearly a ReyLo FanFic but still a banger.

DNF more than 50% of the way through.
Honestly, this book had so much potential in the first half. There was a lot happening between the two main characters while they embarked on their personal journeys, meanwhile, contending with the world around them. I enjoyed the plot line, I truly did. I really liked the magical system, the world building was actually present. The male main character was really something, even if he did give me Kylo vibes at times.
But, the FMC was good until she wasn’t. At 20 years old, she’s a hardened survivor with world knowledge that’s helped her all these years. Immediately halfway through the book, she reverts into this immature and whiny teenager that’s throwing temper tantrums in every single chapter. She was put into a position she didn’t like (uhm, wasn’t the entirety of her life the first half the book???) and she was set to be disgruntled at every turn.
It made the strong and determined woman she carried herself to be into a child. I suppose even with it being YA, — what 20 year old throws temper tantrums at every turn?
Not worth continuing.

I absolutely fell in love with The Hurricane Wars and would say it’s a must read for romantasy lovers.
Starting right in the middle of an ongoing war with magical stormships and lots of secrets to uncover!
Both protagonists had challenging upbringings on opposite sides of the war meaning they often come to head to head due to their own stubbornness- but this only fuels their passion as enemies turn into lovers in an unexpected circumstance neither of them could have predicted!
