Sparkling Cyanide tells the story of Rosemary Barton - a rich, carefree young woman who is cut down in the flower of her youth. At first it appears that she has committed suicide, but when her husband receives anonymous letters indicating murder, Colonel Race is called in to help solve the mystery.

I found the first part of this book to be the most interesting, after which it became a snails race to the finish. Rosemary Barton, despite being the murdered party, was the most interesting character by far - she had spirit and personality. Perhaps the other characters were so colourless as they were living under the cloud of her death?

The mystery itself was clever, as always with Christie. However, I highly doubt that not a single person in the party would have noticed the change in seating arrangement!

I did have my suspicions of Victor Drake as characters on the fringe often play a larger part than is let on, but I just couldn’t see how he could be involved!

Overall, it was a solid story but not highly entertaining. I found the Farradays to be an interesting pairing, but I don’t know what Sandra could have possibly seen in Stephen. A final thing - Colonel Race, the titular series character, did not prove to be much help at all despite his illustrious career. The mystery could have been solved very well without him!
