I had seen this in the theatre prior to reading the book so I was aware of the story and twists that entailed. Saying that I still enjoyed the book as it wasn’t exactly like the stage production. There were characters missed out on the stage version and the stage version also included more of DI Gaskill. The endings are also different. Had I not seen the stage production I probably would have enjoyed the book more. Still a good read however.

After reading Gone Girl and falling completely in love with it, a lot of people recommended that I read this book. All I can say is - WOW! I am so glad that I chose to purchase this.

It's not too subtle and it's not too much either. Books like these can sometimes lose that feeling of suspense and not wanting to put the book down due to being over-used and predicted. This book was not like this in the slightest. Each turn, was in fact a turn and not just a ride around the regular roundabout.

Definitely recommend this book to anyone!

I think at the end of the day I’m going to stick with a 4 star for this. Could it maybe be a smidge less, maybe but I’m going to just make it easy for myself and leave it at a 4 star.

I listened to the audiobook. This was a book that I’ve had a copy randomly on my shelves for awhile. I bought it most likely because I’ve heard SOOO many people talk about it because it’s one of those thrillers. But had still never picked it up. I just kinda forgot it was there if I’m honest.

But finally I was like why the hell not? I don’t pick up thrillers often really. I love mysteries and crime and who done it’s. But don’t pick up thrillers often. But this surprised me with that there was a mystery throughout it of Rachel trying to figure out her connection to it all.

I liked how unreliable she was. It definitely helped the story keep going because you really didn’t know with her what was right or wrong. I found Megan intriguing because you really didn’t know based on her parts of the book what was really going on with her other than she was depressed. Anna was someone who really only cared about herself and her baby and everyone else in the way was just unimportant. She didn’t care that she stole Rachel’s husband she didn’t care about anything.

I will say part me really did think I knew where the plot twist was going but at the same time the plot twist really got me and I was like ooh. I’m hooked and I want to keep listening to see what happens next with it. In the back of my mind I really think I was like I think [blank] did it, just didn’t say it out loud about it to myself.

Is this very hyped as a thriller. Yes. But I’m glad I finally read it even though sure it’s super overhyped. It was a good thriller but it was maybe not the best one out there. Even if I had a good time with it.

This started out as a really interesting read. However, the further I got into it, the less I liked it. None of the characters were very likeable which in some books it doesn't matter. The problem for me was that toward the end the actions they took didn't seem very plausible.

Eh... It was not bad, but it was not that good.
I don't get what the hype is about at all... the ending was not surprising and the characters were a bit cold (am I the only one who prefers YA characters over the ones in adult books? Seems like the characters in adult novels are always cold and dull and we never really get to know them).
Nothing new or special to this story. How is this Goodreads' 2015 book of the year??? ugh.
The writing was alright, but it took me a while to finish the book. I don't know, maybe I waited too long to read this and had high expectations. It was just Rachel wandering back and forth between houses and getting drunk and calling people and crying. It felt like I never really had doubts about who the killer was, like in other novels where suspects keep changing throughout the story. I didn't really care about who did it, because I wasn't expecting a shocker, since there were only about 6 characters in the whole story. I mean, obviously (SPOILERS) it's not going to be the main character, the husband or the first lover, that would be too easy. Who's left? Anna or Tom, and you know it's going to be about an affair.
Honestly, it was pretty boring.

enjoyed that the characters were unlikable, but thought at times that the three voices meshed into one. I can see why it is such a popular book, the beginning and ending were exciting but the middle of the book was hard to get through - some of it could have been cut down

Meh. Fine read. Didn’t really get “thriller” - not tense, guessed the twist early on. Kept me turning pages though. Liked the characters well enough.
