I was pleasantly surprised by this book. I tend to stay away from the 'hottest read of the year' because it usually does not live to the hype. This book however was enjoyable. It was dark and gritty.

Men always say that women are crazy, but it’s because men make us that way. These people are insane to say the least. Honestly I think they are all just too bored with their lives, get a hobby and go to therapy instead of destroying your family. Also they all just need to move out of that fricken neighborhood and get away from one another.
Loved the thrill of reading this because I couldn’t quite guess the ending and getting everyone’s different povs and narration was great. However I do wish we got a little more details about Tom and the murder case in the last chapter.

A book that really grabs you...and I am unsure of whose side I should be on...all the narrators of the novel have dark sides
did not finish at page 54. this book is terrible. it's just about a woman who is a severe alcoholic and obsesses over everyone's lives and does not spend a second worrying about her own.

Ho dato tre stelle perché ho apprezzato lo sforzo di questa autrice finora a me sconosciuta. Ho voluto leggere questo libro per via del grande successo che ha ottenuto (anche se di solito sono piuttosto scettica nei confronti dei 'casi letterari dell'anno' ), e ammetto che all'inizio mi sembrava promettere bene. A tratti riecheggiava un po' Patricia Highsmith, mi sono detta. Vediamo che succede. Beh, man mano che procedevo nel libro la noia s'insinuava tra le righe, mettiamoci anche un pizzico di fastidio per personaggi che sentivo prigionieri di stereotipi, chiusi nei loro bozzoli e mai spinti da uno stile sicuro e originale a uscire fuori vivi e coinvolgenti. E' vero, sono personaggi piuttosto antipatici, ma la maestria di un autore sta appunto nel riuscire a farceli amare nonostante tutto. Ecco, io quel talento lì non l'ho proprio trovato.
Alla fine ne sono uscita esausta e delusa. Nessuno dei personaggi mi ha lasciato niente, lo svolgersi degli eventi è noiosa, malgrado lo stratagemma letterario dell'alternarsi di prospettive temporali e voci narranti (o forse proprio per quello?), voci che alla fine mi sono suonate tutte uguali, prive di individualità a causa di uno stile monotono.
Peccato, perché l'idea non era male ma è stata svilita da una capacità narrativa mediocre.
