I had higher hopes for this book but it read like a very long essay.

This is a phenomenal book. We can all still learn from the timeless lessons of helpfulness and kindness to build a better neighborhood. I feel so fortunate to have grown up with Mr. Rodgers influences. He really was such a genuine good person who loved everyone just the way they are.
Must read!!

Fred Rogers is a true American hero. Despite how horrified he would likely be by society’s current dependence on technology, I am grateful that it means we will always have access to the Neighborhood of Make-Believe. I don’t really remember any of the actual content of Mr. Rogers’ Neighborhood from my childhood, but I remember the love I had for him that I carry with me today. His capacity for love and kindness and sharing that with the world is unparalleled. Nothing is more important for improving our society than quality parenting and children who are loved and taught to love. Fred Rogers knew that.

Biography of children's TV pioneer, Mr. Rogers... Insightful and inspirational message to be yourself--there's power in that-- and be kind to others.

The subject matter is very inspiring, so much to learn from Mister Rogers! At times the writing style felt choppy, repetitive, and with points made out-of-place...but still a great read.

3.5 stars. I so wanted to move this book bc Fred Rogers is my hero and I adore everything about him and what he represents. The book was so dry though. I have read biographies that have swept me into the time and place of the person and have walked away feeling like I have gained a new best friend and it didn’t happen with this book. I loved learning about Mr. Rogers but I didn’t feel like the author did a great job at connecting the reader to his life. I also felt like the author repeated himself way too much. I still recommend the book but don’t expect to get swept up into Rogers’ life story.

If you grew up in the 70's and 80's United States (like me) this man was most likely a big influence on your early childhood. I have fond memories of watching Mr. Rogers Neighborhood. Even now, as a grown up, I find myself humming several songs from the show (I like to take my time; I like you just the way you are; Won't you be my neighbor).

This was a wonderful indepth book, looking at the life of Fred Rogers and sharing parts of his life that was not seen by the public, who only knew him as Mr. Rogers.

I very much liked this book and recommend it hightly.

A wonderful dose of optimism

This book was slow at times, but it’s worth reading. There’s so many golden nuggets of inspiration, revelation, and education. It sounds ridiculous, but reading about Fred Rogers almost felt religious. I wouldn’t place him as Godlike, but he’s definitely someone I would like to emulate, and see more often in others. During the chaos of today, Fred Rogers is a nice dose of optimism and inclusivity that we all need.

As a girl who grew up in a town that was 25 minutes away from Latrobe, PA and 40 minutes away from downtown Pittsburgh, this book feels like the exclamation point at the end of my youth. Fred Rogers was a central part of my childhood, someone who taught me how to use my imagination and how to see myself as a valuable person.

Remembering how I would look forward to watching Mr. Rogers’s Neighborhood every day after school while my great-grandmother made me pork and pierogies gives me a feeling of warmth and familiarity. In fact, I vividly remember watching some of the specific episodes that Maxwell King describes in this book and was able to picture the image in my mind. Fred Rogers was an amazing man, and I’m proud to have grown up in a town with such a close proximity to him. Mr. Rogers is a national idol, but he was a Pittsburgh idol first.

This book does him justice, I think. If anyone deserves a biography that’s as comprehensive, flattering, and respectful as this one is, it was Fred Rogers. He was a humble, caring, thoughtful, and dedicated person who loved his life. He wasn’t a perfect man, but he did his very best with everything, and he always put his viewers—children like me—first.

Any fans of Mr. Rogers’s Neighborhood should read this book if you want to feel closer to your childhood again, or even if you just want to find a newfound respect for Fred Rogers.
