I liked it and I loved the creativity of Ikaris and Makkaris names. I wish that we got to see the Eyernals working together much more, and that Sersi would remember and I’m kinda upset that Sprite just got killed instead of having to apologise for the damage that he caused. The part where Zuras is talking to Ironman and compares their civil war to children fighting over a sandbox was so good though.

This is one of those books where after the first issue I wonder why I started reading it because now I'll have to finish! I didn't really get the point of it; it's just kind of lame. It also didn't feel very Neil Gaiman to me, although I realise he was working from existing material.

There was not much of interest there for me. A few other Marvel heroes crop up (Iron Man, Yellow Jacket and Wasp) but they don't get involved and it seems mainly just an acknowledgment this is meant to be the same universe. None of these characters were interesting, they're nothing more than cardboard cut outs.. if anything I found them a bit overpowered (they're essentially Gods) and with a confusing mythology.

Plus the artwork was seriously off putting. Ugly even.

I've finished it. I got to the end. Now I can read something better!

This didn’t age very well. What the hell happened to Sersi?!

Typical of my thoughts on Neil Gaiman stories, I found the writing to be on the boring side. It took me almost a week to get through this book, and I even nodded off a few times and would have to go back and reread a few pages to figure out what I missed. I liked the mythology, but that was it.

There isn't any action to the story, or at least not in the way the reader would expect. It's just a few of the 90 total Eternals trying to prevent the Celestial from awakening, which apparently will bring about the end of the world. The book is also, like, 98% backstory, which if that’s your thing, then you may really dig this. Also, we don’t even really see what the Eternals can do, nor what the extent of their powers are. We’re just told how powerful they are, and that they are immortal and can be reborn from death. I would liken them to the Inhumans, or at least that’s the feeling I got. The ending of the story is a bit Matrix-y, but it at least sets up the reader to want more, which I'll pursue at some point because I am interested in the mythology.

The artwork was the other big pitfall for me. I'm not a fan of John Romita Jr.'s style of art. It always just seems unfinished or rushed. The design work is good, and I do like the proportions of his superhero anatomy, but I just wish that his work was a bit more polished than what is presented here.

Overall, the story was just okay, and the characters and mythology were interesting enough to keep me hooked. I just found the writing and art to not be the most exciting.

[author: Neil Gaiman] is by far one of my favorite authors at the moment. His take on the Marvel Eternals (apparently created quite a while ago) is amazing. This is a story about ordinary people who discover they are extraordinary people, in fact that they are not people but invincible beings created to watch over the Earth by giant robot-like alien/gods called Celestials. This is an exquisitely created tale, which places the Eternals squarely in the Marvel universe. The nod to Greek and Roman mythology and the explanation of gods is brilliant. A definite must for Gaiman fans or for fans of Marvel.

Kinda boring. Didn't do much to make me invested in these characters and the designs are pretty dull. Shane because the art is good and I generally enjoy Gaiman's writing.

I read this... whenever it came out.
OK, but I wasn't stunned or anything.

I watched the new trailer for the movie adaptation this afternoon, and it reminded me that I had this hardcover sitting on my to-read shelf. Pretty sure it’s been there for over ten years! Anyway, I finished it in a couple of sittings, and it was pretty fun! Nothing terribly special, but it’s an interesting premise, for sure. Kind of made me want to hunt down the original Jack Kirby series.
