second read, 2022
I still loved this just as much the second time around.
first read, 2020
Ooooh this was SO good. It's been a while since a book has gripped me like that! I absolutely devoured this and I can't wait for the sequel.
I loved Emilia, the main character. She just has so much personality and her love for her sister is so powerful and real it just pours off the page. Her determination to avenge her sister's death drives the whole story and I loved reading her descent into dark magic and making deals with demons. The Emilia we read about at the start of the book is not the Emilia we see at the end of the story and I really enjoyed her character development and how her sister's death and her subsequent thirst for vengeance affected her character.
The setting of an Italian city was gorgeous! I loved the world that the book creates with her family's restaurant, the marketplace and the monastery. The inclusion of some Italian words and the many absolutely delicious sounding Italian foods really brought the setting to life. Honestly, some of the food descriptions almost had me drooling!
The witchcraft, magic and demons are the main focus of the story. I love any book where the characters must uncover the truth of what happened in history and little secrets are slowly revealed throughout the story. The witchcraft element felt very natural and I enjoyed reading about the different types of magic that witches use. However, I wish we could have seen more focus on the religions in the world. There is a Christian/Catholic monastery, but the witches seem to believe that the first witch was created by a Goddess, and I would love to have understood the history and origin of the witches and the deities a little more.
I adored the romance in this story! I really enjoyed how unpredictable the romance was and how Emilia didn't always make the classic YA protagonist choice. It's a very slow-burn romance, which I'm sure will continue into the next book, and it felt very natural in the story. At no point did it detract from the main plotline of Emilia avenging her sister's death and uncovering the truth, which was very much appreciated!
Overall, I really enjoyed this story and cannot wait for the next instalment! I would recommend this book to anyone who likes gritty and real YA fantasies.

it took me a while to finish the book because the beginning was painfully boring , kind of felt repetitive. around chapter 23 is where i started to get interested which is wayyy too long for me but overall i liked the book and will read the next one .

Kingdom of the Wicked is a traditional Romantasy: It has a strong female lead who encounters a morally grey shadow daddy that shows her a whole new world. The romance is YA but plentiful and top notch. It had enough unique moments and events to keep it interesting. It was a page turner and very fun to read.

Very confused for most of this book trying to grasp the general concept. I knew the book revolved around the seven princes of hell based on the seven deadly sins, but that's all I knew before starting. I wish I had known a little more because I was more shocked by how unexpected the plot and setting was instead of enjoying the story.

This book was a good read. I will read the next book. Emilia is brave, and she's fierce. I like her and to me she's one witch not to mess with.
This was so good! Such a great audio and it sucked me in from the prologue. It held my interest the whole time and was one of those books that you just don’t want to
put down. Dark, moody MMC who is a demon of hell and a witch FMC. I also love that the FMC doesn’t take crap and does what she wants. Such a perfect fall read! So excited to see where the series is headed.

Interesting premise. I simply can't handle a 3 book long slow burn right now lol
