This isn't a story to read if you are wanting a happy ending. This isn't a story to read if you want something light hearted and warm. This is a book about tragedy and how one boy's life is in turmoil after an accident.

This book is long, and it is right to be as long as it is; because the level of description is incredible. To the detail about how a character is portraying emotion to what the character is visualising is truly astounding. we are looking at a modern life Ernest Hemingway.

From a bombing in an art museum, to drug dealings and corruption; the reader looks into the life of Theo and how every tragic event develops him as a person and how he tries to survive a world of crime and chaos.

This is a story about a boy trying to make it out on his own, and trying to find where he belongs. This is a story about a boy who lost his childhood and fought tooth and nail to be successful.

This book is 100% worth the read even though I have rated it at 3 stars, it is not for the people who want a story about love and survival; this is for people who want a story about suffrage, grief and determination.

It got slightly too introspective and 100 pages could have been cut out the middle - but mostly fantastic and would recommend to anyone

Theo, babes, go to therapy. And maybe try kissing some boys.

I picked up the Goldfinch not long after seeing the painting itself at Mauritshuis and feeling something, and I knew nothing going into the book. It was a lot. I don't know how I feel - I liked it (?) but I think I'm put off long books for the rest of the year at least. This took SO LONG to get through but Tartt's writing is SO GOOD it felt like I was living Theo's life alongside him with all that detail and mess of feelings. The first half of the book was far more compelling than the second, but mostly because I hate how Boris and Theo's friendship
somehow became even more toxic and unsettling as adults
. I appreciate that this is a well-written and beautiful book. The immersive experience in New York, Hobie's shop, Las Vegas and Amsterdam is unlike anything I've read in any other book. But not a single character other than Hobie <3 was likeable.
Fuck Boris and Kitsey and the grandparents and Pippa too.

Stunning prose. Falls off a bit in the latter chapters.
