First of all, the art is gorgeous. It left me so impressed that I feel obliged to give it first billing. It's as beautiful as the cover suggests and impressively expressive. Artist Felix Delep is now an artist I'm going to keep an eye on because he manages to tell you everything about how an animal feels just from the set of their shoulders or the angle of an ear. Every single panel in this book is gorgeously detailed and a step forward in the story with no extraneous or show-off bits, just gorgeous panels that move the story forward.
The story is interesting, with definite Animal Farm vibes but original enough that I kept getting surprised by how things developed. There's one big plot point that left me scratching my head about how it happened, but specifying what and asking for help explaining it would spoil the biggest and most unexpected surprise. Other than that big question mark, I enjoyed everything about this story.
It ends in a very tense moment that will surely change everything about the dynamics between the animals of Animal Castle and I can't wait to see what comes next.

Happy thanks to NetGalley and Ablaze for the very exciting read!

Seems to be a continuation of Animal Farm by George Orwell where animals are divided by who has teeth and claws and is bigger as opposed to tiny and helpless. An alley cat inadvertently ends up leading a civil disobedience movement but it’s much harder than anyone anticipated.

I’m intrigued that Gandhi’s philosophies are used as the basis for this story. Don’t often see that in graphic novels.

I also really like the protagonist, a mama kitty who’s working incredibly hard to protect her kittens. All she needs is a bit of support and she could change the world. But is anyone going to give her that help?

Art is beautiful and picturesque and the animals are often very cute.

I can’t wait to read the next volume.

I need more people to read this. Gorgeous art, Miss B and Caesar are wonderful protagonists, the English translation is solid also. I absolutely adore how expressive all the characters are. Criminally under the radar graphic novel. Cannot wait for the next volume, definitely one of my favourite reads of the year!

This just goes to show that greed, corruption, classism, abuse of power and violence exist in every kingdom, including the animal kingdom. I guess the worst parts of humanity rubbed off on these animals. I will have to look for the remaining volumes to see where the story leads and whether the revolt was worth it.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

TW: Graphic killing of farm animals by dogs , prostitution of a rabbit! This is a graphic novel not for kids.

It's inspired by G.Orwell's Animal Farm book but with way more gore elements and it's so more intense. I don't think that this is for everyone.
I loved this kind of art style and it suits the story with animals. I might have liked it more than Animal Farm. I want to read the next volume and see what will happen to all the animals.

When I started reading this I did not know that it was meant to be a sequel to animal farm. That book is not required reading to understand this at least I don't think since I have yet to read animal farm. Nonetheless I enjoy the message of the book I enjoy the art I enjoy the characters. It does not have a true ending and I hope that additional volumes will solve that.

In the intro, the author talks about the value of peaceful protest/resistance (think Ghandi), but then doesn't show it actually working in the story, so I can't tell if they're for or against it. Seeing as it's written by a Frenchman, and I'm not terribly familiar with the social-political culture there, I can't really guess by that context, either; I mean, these were the people who did the French Revolution, which wasn't exactly peaceful, so maybe they still value that version of affecting change and this book was making fun of it? I genuinely couldn't tell by the end.

Either way, it's depressing because it's definitely accurate that change doesn't happen quickly or easily, and if you want it you will suffer (though if you're suffering already, it might not make much of a difference to you). Anyways, fuck capitalism and RIP our generation, I guess.
