I waited a couple weeks to really digest this, and it’s probably my only written out review I’ll ever do on this app.

The chapters about women’s bodily mutilation and the perils of patriarchy for all genders were excellent. The foot binding chapter made me nauseous; a testament to her writing and point. And hot take: she’s right about porn!!
The mythology/fairytale framework was not for me but I can respect the aim. The last chapter, like so many people have said, was bad and had bad ideas. I think I read she has recanted it….? I hope so. So for that alone I will bring the rating down. Without that chapter it would have been a 4 star for me.

A polarising read due to it bringing up powerful points and undeniable truths at times, while not holding up to today's reality in many aspects, using unchecked statistics and offering, in its conclusion, an unnecessary and not thought through solution (touching on unsavoury aspects in an attempt to find their place in society). Still, an entertaining read that must be digested with a grain of salt and which holds decent educational value. A look at the content warnings before reading is necessary

Interesting read. That being said, I think that Dworkin is at her best when she avoids hyper-academic language that utilizes many sources and is highly inaccessible (countering the point of her book according to the introduction, which is mass-consciousness for women regarding patriarchy and the subjugation that they endure living in patriarchy). Most of the time her arguments made sense, even if I didnt agree with all of them, and her writing was powerful, but towards the end her ideas become almost unreadable. While she has since rescinded many of those ideas (this was her first book I believe?) I don't think this book, or Dworkin as a person should be taken as doctrine/bible for radical feminism or any women's liberation movement. Worth the read, skip the last few pages, and take her ideas with critical thinking and criticism.
