This was an interesting story - well written, a storyline that keeps you guessing, and characters that you like and dislike at the same time. I loved this author's book, The Good Girl. and was expecting an explosive reveal at the end like The Good Girl, but it didn't happen, at least not for me.

Meh.

The book was ok but the ending was just kind of blah. So much more could have been done with it.

This is a good book and is easy to read, but I wouldn't exactly call it a "thriller." Clara has just had baby #2, Felix, when she gets the news that her husband is killed in a car accident. Since her daughter, Maise, seems to be having night terrors about the accident (she was in the car, too) and talks about a "bad man," Clara wonders if her husband's death was really an accident.

Told from the perspective of Clara in the present day, and Nick (husband) "before," this book is very entertaining. Perhaps I would have given the book 4 stars if I wasn't thinking "thriller" instead of a light mystery.

I enjoyed the plot of this story, but much like “Pretty Baby” and “Don’t You Cry”, the ending was extremely anticlimactic and disappointing. “The Good Girl” had an amazing ending, one that was shocking and unexpected, which made it satisfying. It truly made the book worth reading. But Kubica’s other novels haven’t been able to live up to that caliber in my opinion. The secrets Nick kept were disappointing, and the “big reveal” about what happened to him was extremely disappointing which has become a pattern with Kubica’s novels.
The saddest part is, the author ALMOST had a satisfying ending, but ruined it. There were many different directions she could have gone with what Clara found in one of the final scenes with the car, but Kubica chose to sweep that aside and make it something else that didn’t add ANYTHING to the story. We never hear about it again after it happens or what the results of that revelation was, and that was supposed to be one of the big reveals that we have been waiting for; Clara’s connect the dots moment. I think it was thrown in for absolutely no reason which is awful considering it is one of the last chapters in Clara’s point of view and the last scene of her trying to find out what happens before finding out the truth.
I will give this 3 stars because I did enjoy Nick’s point of view and the emotions he expressed before his death were heartbreaking, but I hated how the suspense lead absolutely nowhere. Such a waste.

This is a bit different than Kubica's other thrillers, not as psychologically dark. This is about Nick and Clara and their family. Nick dies in an auto accident, but after Maisie, their daughter, continues to be frightened of "the bad man", Clara believes that Nick was killed. The story is told alternately between present day Clara and Nick before the accident. Nick has a lot of secrets that he is keeping from Clara, and these secrets lend some credence to some of Clara's theories. I thought the book was just okay, not a favorite.

This book does a good job of showing the mindset of a grieving person. The storyline doesn’t develop much but the characters are realistic and detailed.

This book started off great. I was drawn into the story immediately and, as I usually do, was trying to figure out the whodunnit part throughout.

Then I got to the final pages. And was disappointed. I hate when there is a huge buildup and then everything wraps up in a minute.
