One of the greatest novels ever written. Nabokov is one of 10? 15? writers to have ever lived who could have written this novel

Humbert Humbert did not let that slide.

The author's view on this book says a lot. Nabokov describes Humbert as "a vain and cruel wretch who manages to appear 'touching.'" This plays a lot into how Lolita isn't truly a love story, but more of a twisted tale of Humbert's use of subterfuge to manipulate prey and reader alike to achieve his perverted goals. Nabokov's writing is masterful and extremely rich, and he continues to be a favorite with the literary loopholes and tricks he employs on the reader, sometimes without the reader noticing. This writing style always makes for an entertaining read.

If you enjoy Nabokov's writing style, I would highly recommend Pale Fire, as you can enjoy his writing without having to follow the narrative of a pedophile.

I had a dreadful time reading this book with its starkly contrasting content and writing. While the beautiful writing kept me going on and on, the very plot and nature of this book kept me from reading for long. I appreciate the author's ability (bravery?) in tackling a topic so very discomfiting, but it's certainly not a book I'd be getting back to anytime in the future

I bet the author just wrote a normal text and then replaced every second word with the least common synonym nobody ever heard of  from his dictionary. Unreadable unless you want to pause each sentence and google 5 words. Also all the sentences are just so pretentious and unnecessarily complicated.
