a quick read.
I would have been more shocked had I not read The Housemaid first. Many poor reviews of THAT book said it was a rip-off of this one and I had to see. imho, the twist is the exact same (perspective flip!) and some of the manipulative plot points seem to be carbon copies, but the circumstances, character personalities and ending are not. It made both books a slightly different experience. This one was a bit too sexually cringy for me. And the main characters are completely unlikable.

Trigger warning: domestic abuse

I mostly read this to see if McFadden truly stole The Housemaid plot and I can confirm.

I did like the outcome of this but I didn’t care for the writing. It was jumpy in places and often felt unemotional. I do love books with multiple POVs, though, especially when their timelines coincide, so I appreciated that here. Overall wasn’t my favorite but wasn’t awful.
