I've been waiting to read this book for a long time and I'm not sure why it sat on my shelf for so long!
I never really understood how much NHS doctors went through on a daily basis, the sacrifice they made to their own personal lives and their family members who also of course, make sacrifices.
This book is a collection of "diary" entries made my Dr Adam Kay through his journey of being an NHS doctor starting as a House Officer and ending his journey as a Senior Registrar. The daily struggles of multitasking with not enough doctors to go around, and the constant moving from post to post. No one can truly understand the daily problems that NHS doctors encounter until they read this book and even then I imagine until you experienced it, you still wouldn't be able to compare the daily toll this essential work has on the workers of the NHS.
I couldn't even think about giving this book less than a 5-star-review. It's impossible, I was glued to every page. To be honest, I didn't even want it to end; if it had gone on for another 2000 pages you wouldn't have heard me complain.
Finally I would like to say congratulations to Adam Kay for following his dreams after fulfilling so many dreams throughout your time as a doctor. The one child out of many that is named Adam I imagine is ecstatic to be named after such a warrior. Thank you so much for sharing such a personal experience with so many.

Anyone who has ever used the NHS should read this book. It made me laugh out loud. It made me cry. Loved it.

Really insightful and also laugh out loud funny - read in under 24hrs

This is going to hurt…to read. I don’t know why this journal got published. It wasn’t that interesting. It had a few laughs, but nothing really stood out to me. Maybe it was near the end. I wouldn’t know because I couldn’t even finish it.

A really well written and funny book, and an absolute eye opener about the world of the NHS and the UK health care system

Absolutely loved this book. Eye opening and interesting. It’s also hilarious, but there are serious stories in there too.
Read the footnotes. They’re sometimes funnier than the stories.
The ending is heart breaking, but I’m still glad I read it. After experiencing both my children being admitted to hospital (separately) I will never take the junior doctors for granted again!
