I'll admit....I grabbed this book off the library shelves looking for a quick, fun read because I am woefully behind on my reading goals this year. Mission achieved because I truly read this within 24 hours. I started it yesterday morning and put it down this morning. I probably could and should have given myself more time to digest some of the more difficult parts of the book, but it's just so damn good. The funny parts are laugh out loud funny. I had to put the book down a couple times to stop giggling. I also had to put the book down a couple times to stop crying. And a new experience for me--at several points my jaw dropped to the floor. The truth is stranger than fiction, folks. For those who are morbidly curious, or who are fascinated by the extremes of human existence, this is for you. And the writing is fantastic. Almost every entry ends on a clever punchline, except for the ones that probably made you cry. I love getting into a book and finding out it's not been highly reviewed for nothing. It's impossible not to enjoy this book, unless you are very squeamish and have no sense of humor, in which case it's very possible not to enjoy this book.
